I took the original cupboard doors from our home to Ye Olde Strippery. Our house is over 100 years old. We were doing a kitchen remodel and wanted to keep the original built-in cabinets. The cabinet doors were made from wainscoting and had several coats of paint. The gentleman at Ye Olde Strippery told me he could remove the paint, but it would be better if he could take the wainscoting apart to get all of the paint. He would put them back together the same way. Big mistake! Some of the wainscoting was splintered. One door had a large piece missing. When I questioned this, I was told that’s how it was when I brought it in. Pictures I had taken before the work was done proved otherwise. Apparently the doors were scrubbed with a wire brush; some of the wood had a fibrous texture that took repeated sanding to try to make it look like wood again. The doors were put back together but not as they were before. We’ve had to take them apart and work with them to try to get them to fit the original openings. New holes were drilled and the original screws holding the doors together were replaced with deck screws. I paid a lot more than the original quote, but I’m not against paying someone for their labor, and I’m sure the doors took a long time. I’m just extremely disappointed with the quality of the work and will not be taking any other pieces...
Read moreJust stay away. Find anyone else do do the work. Dropped off 4 pieces of furniture to be stripped of paint and was quoted $100 each. I understand that price could go up if it turns out there's more work needed - just call me first. Total cost came to $530 at pick up.
When I said that it's bad customer service to not call and inform when charges increase, I was yelled at. Randy said told that "someone" was supposed to have called, that were bad customers, and that he should have charged us double.
Then he 180-ed and told us we had nice furniture?! Don't try to compliment my stuff now that you've insulted me.
Once we got the furniture home, a corner of once piece still has paint and a piece of detailing was broken off (missing). Obviously not going back to get these faults addressed, as Randy was so unreasonable. I mean - bad customers for requesting...
Read moreWon't use him again. We had him strip and refinish a door for a house we are restoring. He quoted a price of $300 to $350, which I thought was pretty high. In the end he charged us close to $600 . . . nearly doubled the price and never called us to say he was going WAY over budget. Workmanship was at best average and parts of the door wood was actually bubbled/damaged. He should have called if he knew that he was going way over his quote. We would have not continued the work. Spent more for him to refinish the door than a...
