I love going to the Core! It is my home away from home. This is the first comic shop I've ever been to, and it's become the only one I want to visit. When I was in high school I started going to Limited Edition (the local competition). After several times where my friends were scolded for "thumbing through comics", being ignored when I tried getting the staff's attention, and being refused a pull box so I couldn't always get the comics I wanted I decided to go back to the Core. There I am always greeted kindly when I walk in the door, people are welcome to flip through the comics to take a look at the artwork, and a pull box was started for me right away, so I never miss any of the 8-13 titles I pick up weekly. They also host card tournaments constantly, sell games, statues, toys, paint, and about anything else you could want at a comic shop. I have never had a poor experience at this location. Their Free Comic Book Day is something you don't want to miss! There are always various artists that show up to sign drawings and talk to the locals, more cosplayers than you can shake a stick at, an excellent selection of comics ranging from free to discounted to full price, and prizes for lucky members of the crowd. All in all the Core is just a great place to be. It's like the Cheers of comic shops. If you don't get the reference look up the theme song real quick and you'll...
Read moreNot very accessible unfortunately for those who are disabled. I used to love going here until my disabilities got as bad as they are now, went today for my best friend's birthday and unfortunately no handicap spot, the door is definitely heavier, and not as much room to move around even with just using my cane. Definitely wish it was more accessible as I have to use a Rollator/walker majority of the time as well but no handicap space meant I didn't have the room to get it out of my car without risking damage to another car, and even if I was able to there would be no room to get around the store anyway. Wish more small businesses would keep disabled customers in mind as it can happen to anyone at any minute. Disabilities do not discriminate against age it just takes one bad accident or even a dormant genetic trait to flare it up. Wish more small businesses would keep this in mind, especially ones like this which I used to love going to but I won't be back as I could barely get around the store at all. If you're able bodied feel free staff is still friendly as ever, but the circumstances are unfortunate and...
Read moreI have been collecting comic books and science fiction toys/figures for over 30 years and have been to many different stores in other states. The Core is by far one of the top stores in the Midwest. They have a wide range of products for kids all the way to the serious collector. If you have any questions, the staff is very friendly and always willing to help answer those questions. The Core also is huge supporter of gamers. But the biggest thing that involves the community is the Free Comic Book Day and the Halloween Costume Contest. These two events bring in people to see Superheroes and Super Villains and others. Families come out to get free comics and get their pictures taken and talk to the costume superheroes. Smiles are always seen by children. I give the Core my strongest...
