Don't even know what to call the situation. Will start by saying the folks at check in are always completely kind. But this moment on the 30th was absurd. Really. Went to fox hollow and couldn't play because wind bursts were too much. But really really wanted one last round before the year was over. Got in to join a threesome and a little annoying to be forced into a group considering ABSOLUTELY almost no one else was playing! Our foursome was a part of basically 15 other players on the entire course. When I signed up there was completely open full slots for 18. Don't see the absurd need to force a group if no one else is even playing! And I know the golf community as a whole knows that cart fees are becoming a scam, but I digress⦠what I am angry about is the sudden treatment at mid level courses such as this. I know I am not at Cherry Hills or Arrowhead or Bear Dance, but some employees of an older age just need to be let go. No politeness what so ever. This moment was me calling the pro shop to send a new cart because mine was about to die. I was only on hole 6. The person on the phone super polite. The two who showed up with the new cart; one is younger one was much older. The younger was immensely polite and well spoken. The older person, wonāt call a gentleman decided to be a jerk. To snark at me and tell me I should have just jumped in the free seat on the other cart. Which i said ok, sorry, understood. Then continued to let me know that there will never be a single person in a cart ever again at the start of the new year. (Cant fathom how that will work.) He then complained at me again about not sharing a cart and he made the younger guy so uncomfortable with how rude he was being to me. Thank god for the young guy being super polite, professional, and friendly. A true moment of donāt respect your elders. And also I am sorry I paid for a cart, was given a basically dead one, seeing as the course wasn't flooded with players canāt imagine there was a cart shortage so why complain at me for having one also helped because everyone in my group were basically new to golf but me⦠when I played other courses and its busy and short on carts and asked me to join someone else I am more than happy to pair up! but if its a graveyard who cares? I play fast, Iām not awful. Which this helped seeing as the threesome quit due to the cold so i would've been left to walk the last 6 holes. Im glad i got to play, was absolutely freezing was pretty bummed to have such a rude employee...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have played at South Suburban on and off for the 2+ years I have lived in Denver. In general they have good prices, the course is usually in pretty good shape, and the guys behind the clubhouse are friendly.
Obviously since COVID everyone has different protocols for the golf courses. I have been playing golf plenty since COVID started and do my best to follow whatever rules the course has in place.
Recently it has become clear that South Suburban has some issues with their system. I went into the clubhouse and paid for my tee time without issue. The gentleman was very kind and asked if I wanted a receipt. I said I was okay to avoid exchanging any unnecessary points of contact. He told me to have a good round.
My group goes up to the tee 4 min before our tee time when there was nobody else there. The group ahead was on the green and finishing up. As we are getting ready this lady from the regulation tee box comes up and asks for our receipts. I don't have one because I did not get it from the clubhouse and she makes a comment about "no proof". Uh, if this is the protocol, why does the clubhouse not just always give you a receipt and notify you that they will check it?
She then says in a very rude tone, "Guess you guys didn't see the sign saying wait until your tee time is called to come up to the box. Crazy how many people don't pay attention to that."
Okay, let me get this straight: I come here to give you guys business and play a friendly round. I follow all the visible rules, wear a mask, pay for my round, and I receive no directions. Why did the clubhouse not explicitly say, "please wait to head to the box until we call you."? Is that so hard? Then why do you need to be a very rude and unpleasant person about it when we have followed everything and came when our tee time was minutes away and no one is on the box?
Soured us pretty hard. I am sympathetic to people needing to work during COVID and I take a lot of pride in how easy I am to work with as a customer. But this attitude and treatment is just not something I need to be dealing with. I will likely avoid South Suburban for a while.
A feel a 3 star review is generous given this one negative interaction and the course is typically...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was my worst experience golfing in a very long time, maybe ever. Course and greens are in below average condition with dead grass, divots, and patches everywhere - not to mention grounds crews driving through every single hole interrupting for a reason I didnāt see. I have played here so many times and always have had a great time, but today (May 20th) I went with a foursome to play a simple par 3. Not only did the round take over 2.5 hours to play (YES A SHORT PAR 3) we had to wait on every single hole with the group in front of us AND behind us in most cases because it was so backed up. I donāt care if there was a delay this morning or not this is unacceptable even for a public course. If you canāt handle this many golfers - donāt overbook or get an actual marshal to patrol this and keep the pace of play moving. On top of an already slow and frustrating day, we were YELLED at by a heavier set man who thought he was a golf course cop in a green shirt, for āparking too close to these greensā which we were nowhere near. He then proceeded to stare me down and then stop at every group & scold them for something different until getting to the older group behind us and laughing and pointing at us and others. For an employee driving around the course like an amateur nascar driver, cutting through the fairways, over the tee boxes, & interrupting swings, and unable to enforce any sort of pace of play, this was absolutely uncalled for and disrespectful. Mind you my group and I are 30+ years old - I donāt need to be yelled at like a child. You can say the same thing by speaking like a mature adult and asking respectfully. Why donāt you start speaking to the teenagers dressed in sweatpants and t shirts who shouldnāt even be out there playing instead? I want to be refunded & get my time back for this pace of play & for being treated so poorly, even though I know those are both impossible. I have been a consistent customer for years, but this will make me stop coming here to golf along with all the friends and family that I will make sure donāt book...
