Ippatsu salon — Local services in Champaign

Earlier today, I received a cut from a different salon and was horrified by the end result. In desperate need of help, I drove over to Ippatsu. I’ve never been before, but a friend has been raving about them for years now.

I fully expected to be turned away, I was just a random girl with a terrible haircut crying at the reception desk. Instead, I was met with such kindness and understanding from the receptionist (I wish I got their name!). After a few minutes, they found a stylist for me: Makenzie.

Makenzie took time during her lunch break to turn what was an uneven/choppy mess into a super cute and functional pixie. I never once felt judged for crying, which I’m so grateful for. I’m a rather shy and anxious person, but I felt so at ease the entire time. Makenzie explained what she was doing throughout our session, making sure I was okay with any changes. It was such an affirming and validating process. I left feeling so happy!

I'm a 52 year old autistic Blasian man. I'm always nervous about a new salon/stylist/barber. I have a lot of sensory issues and the scents and sounds can be overwhelming; products used on your hair can feel sticky/oily/greasy/slimy as well as having an overpowering scent; and many barbers/stylists either don't know how to deal with multiracial hair or they don't listen to what I want done and instead do what they think should be done.

As I said, I was very nervous and had a bit of anxiety about my visit this morning.

I'm so relieved to say that the salon, and Delsey specifically, were incredible! I was not overwhelmed by blaring music and a cacophony of voices. I wasn't overwhelmed by a million overlapping scents. It was a quiet, relaxed atmosphere with music at a reasonable level.

And Delsey listened to my concerns and wishes. They asked if something was okay before doing it. And I left feeling heard and cared for.

I debated on writing a review since I am the type to let things go easily, but this place really had me feel uneasy. I called a couple of days ago as a new customer since all of the reviews are good I just was in need of a trim and blowout so they scheduled me for today. I was unable to make the appointment and called to canceled (8 hours before), the lady who answered was extremely rude while speaking to me, with the intentions of me rescheduling she said that there were “consequences for canceling without 24hrs notice” understandable, but the tone was speaking to me as I was a child and making me feel guilty, almost speaking to me hostile. As a new customer who has never been here before I was never aware of these “consequences” which I still don’t know what she was referring to and will definitely not be...
