I am so disappointed in my last experience with The Computer Store (formerly IT Computer Store) after having done business with them for many years. I have purchased no fewer than 4 Apple computers from them. Being used equipment, I understand that they are going to be "obsolete" within a few years. But if I can get 3 good years out of a piece of used equipment that cost 1/3 the price of a new one (I generally paid about $450), that is OK with me. On December 19th, when one of my business computers went down (that I had purchased from them a couple years ago), I bought another a used iMac, but the cost had increased significantly for a "late model" unit and I paid $1072 for it. It worked OK for a couple of days, then started giving me some trouble. I updated the software and got another few good day's out of it. Then prior to the New Year, the wired keyboard quit responding and the monitor started cutting in and out; I was unable to use it at all after 12/30. Meanwhile, I discovered that a NEW base model iMac with an M3 chip is only $1299. So I returned the non-functioning use equipment to them today (1/2/24 - less than 2 weeks after purchase) and they charged me a 30% ($300) RESTOCKING FEE. This is a piece of USED equipment - it was not purchased NEW and returned USED. When I called them to let them know I was bringing it back there was no mention of a 30% restocking fee. I knew equipment had a 30 day warranty, but I had no idea that if you purchase something there and brought it back 2 weeks later, after only 7 working days use, that is going to cost you 30%. Clearly too big a risk to take on something that was not a big savings over new equipment with a full warranty. BUYER BEWARE. They did not value my business, and they will not...
Read moreA few weeks ago, I ran into an issue where my machine was unable to boot into the operating system. After trying multiple troubleshooting steps on my own—including reinstalling the operating system and testing different OS images without success—I decided to take it to this repair shop for professional assistance.
I explained in detail everything I had done to troubleshoot the problem and even provided an extra hard drive, requesting that they try installing the OS on it to see if the machine would boot. They had the machine for over 48 hours but were unable to resolve the issue. When I asked for an update, they informed me that the NVMe drive was faulty, which seemed reasonable at the time. However, they didn't offer to replace the drive or provide further suggestions, so I picked up my machine after paying a $150 diagnostic fee.
After taking the machine home, I purchased and installed a brand-new NVMe drive, but I ran into the same issues as before. Realizing something else had to be wrong, I sent the machine back to the original seller, who had it diagnosed within 12 hours. It turned out the CPU was faulty, not the NVMe drive. In fact, the original drive was perfectly fine and was reinstalled.
While the repair shop was polite, they missed the real issue and cost me time and money in the process. It was frustrating to discover that a critical component was misdiagnosed, which...
Read moreDo not take your tablet or anything else to this place to be repaired. The owner of this business does not know how to diagnose problems. Very unprofessional and rude. I brought my tablet in because it would not charge and suggested in might be a charging port problem which was quickly dismissed with a jewelers eye loupe. Not sure how a quick glance can do that. He then said it was the battery and after a week and a half of calls to him because he lied about ordering the battery he said my tablet was fixed. I returned to a tablet with only 14% charge on it and quickly asked are sure this is charging and his flunky replied yes. Brought home plugged in charger and died in less then 5 mins. Brought back to store immediately and he angrily grabbed a charger and plugged it in and said its charging which it was but never went over 3%. So it was the charging port the whole time and I will take it to a...
