First of all, what a hidden GEM!!! We have lived in Portsmouth, and now Chesapeake since 2002....and NEVER knew about this place. What a shame with all those wasted years, lol. Onto the review! Nicest family you will ever meet! David gave my daughter & I a full tour, and we watched them make delicious peach ๐ buds from start to finish ๐ even got to sample the coconut filling before it went inside. Small candy shop that really packs a punch with their old fashioned style of making candy and flavors. The candy is delicious, flavors authentic, and quite reasonable on prices, ESPECIALLY after you watch the intense labor of love that goes into these candies! Do yourself a favor and pick up a few boxes (not bags), because you will want more!! We bought Watermelon, Banana, Peach Buds, Pineapple Lumps, Hot Rocks, Vanilla, Cotton Candy and Assorted Fruit flavors (some bags, some boxes). Had to go back today for a box of Pineapple Lumps (tastes like a Pina Colada), and was so ecstatic because they had the Coconut Tri-Color candy (better than Brachs or any others), so I got 2 boxes of that one๐ Don't miss out on this local place, they deserve the praise & more Hampton Roads neighbors giving them a shout out for their generational candy making family over a...
ย ย ย Read moreMy husband had been given some of Williams candy so we made a point of visiting their location where in Virginia Beach. We watched peach buds being made from pouring the sugar/corn syrup on the water cooled table, mixing the color and flavor, twisting one section of the candy to get the air bubbles out, combining the 3 sections together and adding coconut in the center and putting the 120 lb roll through the machine to cut the finished into pieces. This is a family owned business, everyone is so warm and friendly, that began in 1919 and will be celebrating their 100th anniversary this year. We had some samples and they were all delicious. FYI..they accept cash only. Which is fine when you know ahead. You don't want to miss out on purchasing some candy. They make candy Monday and Tuesday right now and September to December they make...
ย ย ย Read moreMy daughter and I stopped in for her birthday. Upon walking in we were greeted with the sweet smell of candy and a smile. We were very surprised to find this is a small candy factory operating since 1919 that specializes in hard candy and coconut squares. Childhood memories of candy my grandparents used to share with us as kids flooded back and I knew I would be taking some home.We had the luxury of trying a fresh hot off the press peach flavor and instantly fell in love. Prices were beyond reasonable and I left with two boxes and a couple bags of other flavors. They also do candy tours! A great experience for the candy lover,...
