This is a woman’s shelter for those who love God and are in need of a place to stay for 3 weeks. There are no case managers or any resources available. They offer you a bed to sleep in and 2 meals per day; breakfast and dinner. You can pack your lunch and take it on the road with you. The shelter is run by the Missionary’s of Charity Sisters. There is a chapel inside and mass is held 3-4 days per week. They also provide confession if you are interested in speaking with a priest or if you want spiritual guidance. Women are required to leave the shelter daily by 7am and return by 4:30 pm unless you are working. If you work, you need a special request to come in after 4:30 pm and the doors are locked by 9pm. Dinner is held at 4:30 pm with prayers before each meal. Once you are here, you must turn in all electronic devices to the sisters, for the evening, and they will be returned to you in the morning. There are no TV’s for entertainment. The Sisters are very kind and beautiful human beings that will house you in your time of need. Read moreWe love the missionaries of Charity but unfortunately they are closed at this time and are not accepting any women into the shelter. The facility is so calm and peaceful you can pray in the morning with the sisters and a 10 Mass you can always have your confession there as well by the priests who comes in in the morning, if you want to do outreach the sisters do go into Kensington to serve the poor. Shelter hours are 7:00 a.m. in the morning till 5:00 and you have to be in by 5:00 at the latest. You are not allowed to have your cell phone with you while you stay there the sisters do collect it at night and give it back to you in the morning. The sisters is a house of prayer and worship to Jesus Christ and the blessed mother. The sisters are routinely rotated thru different global geographic locations. Not necessarily as a group. Much of their time is spent in fervent private prayer. They disavow many modern conveniences for the most part, consistent with their vow of charity. Single mothers w/children* have been known to be provided with a 30-day overnight stay. Clothing and meals may also be available. Children's gifts at Christmas. They are decidedly not social workers in the traditional sense however.
