I've been going here for plants, soils, and garden equipment monthly for the last 10 years and before that on and off since the 1990s. They do have a good selection. Today just ruined it. After paying with a lovely cashier I've known for a while and joking about working tomorrow, Memorial Day, one of the day laborers followed me to my car and accused me of stealing a $3 bag of top soil. It was really disappointing and insulting. I thought over the years I had established a reputation with Simply the Best and I asked him, "You don't trust me?" He didn't speak English very well and just asked for the receipt. He couldn't answer when I asked why he thought I would steal top soil. He didn't apologize when my receipt showed that I was right. I thought to myself, thinking back to when I worked in retail, usually after the POS (point of sale) the customer leaves. A thief will also try to pocket the most expensive item. I had a cubic foot of premium soil ammendment 4x the price of the $3 top soil. Upon seeing me go from the cashier straight to my car, where is the justification for thinking I stole a big bag of top soil? This day laborer had helped other customers load their items into their cars. If I was suspect, why not offer to help me and see if I got nervous and declined the offer? Why not follow me around and ask if I need help? He helped all the women. There are tricks to be used when one is suspicious that a customer is stealing. In an accusation such as this, you risk losing a life long customer so you better be right. It's not something to be taken lightly. In short, this is a neighborhood, small business that relies on the people in the neighborhood for business and the people in the neighborhood enjoy having a neighborhood nursery that's more personal than say, the Home Depot or Lowe's. However, I was the one robbed of that neighborhood small business feeling and I don't feel comfortable going back to Simply the Best. Perhaps that's for the best that I take my money elsewhere. Hopefully Simply the Best will acknowledge this review and make sure they don't lose other...
Read morei shopped in this store regularly until a few days ago when the store was crowded and i asked a store employee to pass me a package of eggs . the store employee checked the eggs first and then passed to me. after i paid and returned home. i found 2 of the 12 eggs were broken. it is not possible for the store employee to not discover the eggs were broken when he checked them. This morning i returned to the store and told the store employee this. he said I broke the eggs. I was very upset and told the employee that he was very mean and evil in saying those things and intentionally passed a package of eggs to customers knowing there were broken ones inside. the store manager overheard our conversation and told me that i shouldn't complain over 2 broken eggs and shouldn't call his employee evil even if his employee passed the broken eggs to me. then the store manager told me to never shop there again. the store manager said that i shouldn't care about 2 broken eggs because he could give me a dollar as a refund, which he never did, and also because he could even give me a package of eggs as a refund, which he also never did. Just as another reviewer said, this place only wants your money and cared absolutely nothing about customer satisfaction. if you complained about inferior products, they will not only not give refund but also insult you. DON'T shop at...
Read moreThis Friday I went into "Simply the Best" to sell them a "Forklift" and walked out a happy customer with non organic Blueberries and Strawberries. And both are still looking really good on my kitchen table- Three days later. I needed to stay in their parking lot to make a few sales calls and in comes a "Fruit and Vegetable" delivery truck from the Bronx. The delivery guy gets out of the truck and starts up the competitive forklift right next to my car. He then goes to take the "Pallet" load of Fruits and Vegetables off of his truck and into the back of the nursery and I have a great view of the entire process. What happens next is "WHY" I am now a life long customer - 3-4 employees from Simply Best and the delivery driver from the Bronx are now sorting boxes and individual pieces of fruit and vegetables to ensure that they are Fresh and meet the high standards that their customers demand and expect. I hope that the delivery man's boss from Bronx understands what a quality call is vs. just quantity? I now know WHY-They are called...
