I am from Watertown originally and now live in Allentown, PA. I LOVE Alteri's sausage rolls. I wish I could give a better review, but what just happened has left me beyond frustrated... I called on Monday before Thanksgiving to order and pick-up 3 sausage rolls. I was told they were "at capacity " and couldn't take anymore orders for the week. I asked about Friday; no. What about Saturday? I was told that should be doable. They open at 10am. I gave my name, phone number, confirmed 3 rolls and that they open at 10am. After leaving my mother's house, which is a half an hour away, I had the inclination to call to make sure the rolls were ready. I was told they wouldn't be ready until 1pm. What?! I asked why didn't anyone bother to tell me this when I called on Monday and why didn't anyone call me to tell me?! The girl said in the confusion, my phone number wasn't written down. Really? And then they were so busy and backed up, the rolls won't be ready until 1pm. OK, so give me someone else's order and tell THEM you made a mistake because I called on Monday to order. Ma'am, no mistake was made. Really?! You just told me my number wasn't written down (but the girl on Monday DID ask and I assume write it) and now saying no mistake, so it sounds like back peddling to me. Forget it; I no longer want the order. My daughter is visiting for the holiday, leaves today to go back to Penn State, she leaves at 1pm and I'm a half an hour away right now. So no, 1pm doesn't work. The girl proceeds to say "Haveaniceday" (yes, all one word) and hangs up. Not sorry for the confusion. Not sorry your number wasn't written down. Not offering ANY type of redemption. Nothing. Poor, poor customer service. This isn't the first time the service hasn't been great but, I loved the rolls so much I overlooked it. I may...
Read moreAlteri's is the Italian communities best kept secret. Their family has been in the bakery business for a millennium, and you can taste every years worth of experience in their products. We tried the sausage bread; the bread alone was incredible, it was crusty and had a bold and pungent yeast flavor. The olive oil used in the bread gave it a vibrant fruity piquancy. Inside the loaf was the best Italian Sausage I have ever tasted, it was tender and rich in fatty flavor. There was an amazing balance between the earthy notes of oregano and rich anise aroma given off by the fennel. The savory and salty was brought together by this remarkably gooey mozzarella that practically poured out of the bread. The cheese had a subtle sweet flavor that meld together with the fruity olive oil to create a truly unique taste experience. The Alteri family are masters of their craft, I highly recommend this establishment above all others in the region. The love they have for what they do is evident in their...
Read moreI am 100% Italian and a foodie. I do not get what the big deal is about this place. Items are not PRICE marked! NOTHING IS. The temp where the bread is stored is super hot and it is in plastic bags sweating. Do you love mushy bread and the cherry on top are the prices once you found out. I went to try the gelato and after Paying $10 for a PINT! I was so so disappointed. My stracciatella was basically ice. Never again, I will gladly drive to Kingston to support MIO gelato. They know gelato. After reading the story behind the gelato I understand. You do not learn to Make gelato in 5 days. This is what I get to try to support local businesses: disappointment and wasted...
