I have been shopping there for nearly 20 years but lately the prices have gone up and up and up while the overall selection and quality has gone WAY down hill. The store is huge geographically but no longer has great selections. They used to be amazing because they had huge variety in options and price ranges and their consignment section had huge selections too. Now they take very little and mark it up to almost full retail prices. They do not give a large percent of profit to the people who they get the items from (I think it was like 60% if you want store credit or only 30% if you want a check) and if it does not sell in a certain time they donate it all anyway. I do not know why they cut their selection so severely when this used to be my main appeal for going there. The last several times I have been so disappointed, because they either didnāt have at all what I was looking for or not enough choices even in their regular retail area. I then turned around and went down the road to Dover who not only had a MUCH better range I selection but also SIGNIFICANTLY better ranges price wise.
Listen, I know what I am. I am a casual hack rider most days. I need my equipment to be safe and in decent condition but I am not bougie or looking for show quality by any measure. If that is what you want, there is nothing wrong with it. Horsemanās Outlet was always my go to because they catered to all riders and had a significantly better range in dressage and western items than most places in the area. Now it feels like they are yet another store for the fancy hunter jumpers and have the attitude to match. I have been SEVERELY disappointed and outright pissed off by their customer service the last several visits. I felt incredibly looked down upon: almost an āhow dare I ever deign to walk into their establishmentā level of attitude. They act like helping you find something in their maze of an establishment is a chore and heaven forbid you ask to try something on. Then when it is time to check out if you can even find someone at the register you better not have any questions because they act like they want literally nothing from you - sometimes im tempted to ask them if they even want the money I am about to send or if I should just leave with the level of attitude they have given me. I know I do not look like a fancy show rider but I do spend the money on my horses for good equipment when I need it and I have never felt as looked down upon as my visit to their store this morning. It was so bad another customer actually apologized to me for the way I was treated.
Sufficed to say I will no longer be frequenting this establishment. If you want cheap consignment try your luck on Facebook marketplace but just be careful to inspect any tack before you pay. If you want good quality new goods just go to Dover Saddlery. They are friendly, extremely helpful and their clearance section has great prices on brand new tack and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAbsolutely a horrible place. They have no sense how to treat customers. We bought a $250 blanket because the fitting guy insisted that if it does not fit we can bring it back. We tried the blanket on our horse and it did not fit. We returned in immediately and they were such jerks to make an exchange. The lady at the register found hardly 1 X 1 inch dirt spot in the corner of the blanket and said itās not acceptable. Then she proceeded to give me a lecture on how a horse should be spotlessly clean and the blanket can not have a little smudge. Then she was offfensive to say she would put this brand new blanket on consignment for us. All this time she continued to berate us and rudely humiliate us loudly in the store while maintaining she is being polite by allowing us to even talk. Such entitled behavior is just not acceptable. Such a bunch of jokers. They need basic training on how to talk to anyone. Having worked at a place for years doesnāt warrant you can treat people this badly and continue to get away with it. Despicable. All that for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBest selection, great consignment section, terribly rude staff. I never leave reviews but after a decade of being spoken down to and multiple clients complaining, here it is. Iām a local trainer who has to explain to my clients that although EVERYONE has a bad experience when approached by the staff, we must shop here due to the fact that there are no other local tack shops with this selection. I have never walked into any other store, ready to spend loads of money, fully prepared to be treated rudely. I thought it was just me until I discovered that that is how they treat everyone unless u drop a big hunter barn name when you walk through the door. I never used to say anything until my clients started complaining they no longer wanted to shop there due to the way staff treats customers, now I tell my clients to just try to get in and out without speaking to the staff. Itās...
