I was shopping for a used Hyundai Kona and after visiting several dealerships with little success, I found a car with Novak Motors. The dealership is very far from where I live so I worked with the salesman over the phone and we agreed on final price, down payment, monthly payment, etc. Because I live 1 1/2 hrs away, I was ready to drive there, test drive the car and if all goes well, drive back to New York with it.
The car was great--but I found that the car was dirty and had not been properly detailed. Usually when you buy a car--even if used--you drive off the lot with a clean, shiny car right? This car had previously been a rental car and had been sitting in the lot for several months. The rearview mirror was dusty, the cloth seats and roof had some stains, the scuff marks had not been buffed, the car wash was not fresh. I mentioned this several times to the salesman there--specifically said that the car had not been detailed--and 3 times he asked one of the service guys to follow me to the car where I would point out the scuff marks, stains and crumbs. They ended up taking it to a car wash and vacuuming the car. After I inspected the car and repeated that the car had not been DETAILED (ie scuff marks, stains, etc still there!), the salesman insisted that they spent $32 vacuuming the car. I don't know if working with a woman threw him off but he acted like I was being ridiculous and demanding. I know the difference between a detailed car and a car that has been vacuumed--not the same—and I don’t think my expectations for a clean car were unusual.
In addition, when it came time to discuss how the car would be paid for, I hadn't been made aware of what exactly I needed to bring with me before I drove 1 1/2 hrs to the dealership. I assumed I would be able to fill out an ACH and have money wired from my bank to the lender. So when I got there and it was time to discuss payment, the finance guy came over with a sour look on his face. Since I didn't already have a check for the down payment, he informed me that if I wanted to drive away with the car that day, my only options were to finance it all or put $3k on a credit card and finance the rest. He seemed to really really want me to finance all or most of it--ran the numbers, told me the higher monthly payment meant that the car would be paid off sooner!!!-- but then it occurred to me that I could get a cashiers check from my bank—and wouldn’t you know, there was a branch 5 mins away. Not sure why he didn't suggest this in the first place.
In the end I have the car I want at a fair price so that's a plus-- but the whole experience at the dealership was pretty disrespectful. I found the finance guy to be grumpy and almost a deal killer; the salesman I worked with provided very little actual service, gave me no useful info beforehand to prepare for the purchase and made me feel like I was being ridiculous for insisting that the car I am spending more than $18k be DETAILED and not just vacuumed. I ended up getting my new car cleaned and detailed myself.
Instead of driving away feeling happy in my new car, I was really disappointed and felt like all they wanted was to hustle me into the car I came for -by any means necessary. I liked that they worked with me on price but I think they need to work on service and especially how to be less dismissive and work better with...
Read moreMy wife and I drove from Essex County to see a vehicle for sale here. We were promptly greeted by the front end girl Danielle who proceeded to get us a salesman right away. I informed Wes that I was interested in the white 2015 Toyota Tacoma on the lot. He grabbed a set of keys and off we went. Wes advised to try some backroads along with the highway to check the suspension and performance of the truck out. After a solid test drive, we arrived back at the clean, warm and very modern dealership. We discussed my options and I advised Wes I was interested in the truck and he had the technicians on staff go over my trade, a 2012 Subaru WRX. After a brief negotiation, we made a deal for their truck. There were no hidden fees, like “dealer prep 1295$” that most dealers try to weasel out of you.
Wes had most answers for the questions that I asked, and when he didn’t, he said “let me check into that for you” instead of lying to make a sale. He was a knowledgeable young man who was not pushy or cocky. I would highly recommend him as a contact person at the store.
Jeff the finance manager was eaqually helpful, and did not push to up sell me a warranty. Jeff went over gap insurance which I feel is a good investment if like me, you finance with no money down. They washed and fueled my new truck, and advised me that I have free oil changes for 2 years with my purchase.
I feel the need to express that all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The cars on the lot were clean and free of snow, as we had a recent storm that covered the NJ area. The cars on the lot were all within a few model years old, and appeared to be in excellent condition. This was the third Tacoma I looked at, with me walking away from the other two dealers. They offered me the best value for my dollar bar none. If you’re looking for a clean, gently used vehicle I would definitely advise you to see what’s on...
Read moreMy husband and I were browsing online for days for a new truck, and when we finally saw something we loved, we were a little weary of travelling so far with our extremely limited free time. After making the trip to Novak Motors, a little over an hour away from our house, I can honestly say it was the best decision we've made- it was well worth it and we will be back in the future!
Alongside our "dream truck", they had a really nice selection of cars and a beautiful show room. The entire dealership was spotless, clearly a workspace loved by its staff. That sentiment proved true once again when we began working on our purchase. Our sales consultant, Don Lamperti, was amazing from start to finish..and even after! He was so personable, sharing his own experiences and stories, as well as extremely knowledgeable. It was clear we were working with a professional, however it felt more like we were buying a vehicle from a close friend! He made the entire purchase a breeze, alongside Rick Domenichetti. Rick helped us iron out all the financial details of our purchase, was super clear, and helped us walk through everything in easy to understand terms- all while chatting with us casually. Don was even kind enough to call us hours after we left the dealership to see how the drive home went! Novak Motors, specifically Don and Rick, went above and beyond all expectations- making us feel like guests in their homes as opposed to buyers and sellers! We never felt the normal dealership pressure to buy, and they even through in some added perks (a full tank of gas and a few vouchers for free oil changes!). Great experience, and would definitely recommend them to anyone.
Don and Rick, if you're reading this- THANK YOU AGAIN! We...
