Really lovely airport, friendliest staff, cutest restaurant (maybe the best single airport restaurant I regularly loop through), comfy seats, great building, but
If you need to get to or from the Quad Cities- like actually need to get there within 24 hours of a certain time target- you need to fly into Chicago and rent a car.
No mainline flights (operated by Delta, American, or United) actually fly to here- you’re on a regional partner- and nobody cares about those flights’ performance any more. On time performance, even COMPLETED AT ALL performance is abysmal. My family comes to the Quad Cities 4-5x a year, and about half the time we wind up delayed by at least 12 hours and/or a couple hundred miles away (CID, DSM, ORD,MKE have all been “the closest they can get us” to Moline for days- literally days.
Most of the little regional flights- CLT, DFW, DEN etc. only happen one or possibly two times a day. If your flight from CLT to MLI cancels (usually after several hours of delays first), you’re just SOL. The planes are too small, too few people, and not even mainline flights- the airlines will simply cancel those flights and not care at all. When that one flight a day gets cancelled with no rescheduling, it could be days before you get another seat for the MLI leg of your flight.
It’s not worth it for my family anymore- there’s never a time where we don’t really care if we get where we’re going. Perhaps when we retire we’ll try MLI again.
At very least, we’ll at least make sure our connection is Chicago so we can just rent a car when the...
Read moreQuad Cities International Airport (MLI) in Moline, Illinois, may not be the largest airport you'll ever fly through, but it delivers a fantastic experience every time. What sets MLI apart is how incredibly clean & well-maintained it is. You typically won’t find a single piece of trash anywhere, and the entire airport feels thoughtfully taken care of. It's clear that the staff take pride in keeping it looking spotless, which instantly creates a welcoming atmosphere.
The staff at MLI are another highlight. Both the gate agents and ticketing staff are incredibly kind and helpful, making each interaction feel more personal and genuine than what you typically encounter at larger airports. There’s a real hometown vibe that makes you feel appreciated and well taken care of throughout your time there.
One of the more surprising features of MLI is the food. While the options are somewhat limited compared to major airports, the quality of what’s available is excellent. Airport food is often overpriced and lackluster, but that's not the case here. What they do offer is delicious & it’s worth trying.
The unique decor is also a nice touch. From the suspended plane in the ticketing area to the giant bronze deer just past security, there’s something that catches the eye and entertains kids and adults alike. Overall, MLI offers a warm, friendly, and clean airport experience that consistently exceeds...
Read moreToday’s adventure is taking me from home in Iowa (well technically Illinois) to Fiddletown, California. My next adventure on this journey we call life is on officially underway. Not that my new Boss and I haven’t been hard at it the past 60 days or so mind you. However, it is actually “real” now.
I’m moving from the Midwest to the Golden State of California. I was initially retained as a consultant in relation to a new opioid addiction treatment facility. After consulting for a period of time, the physician establishing the new facility and system of rehabilitation approached me asking if I would consider the possibility of being the Program Director. Consider it??!!?? Please, no brained for me!!
The facility will utilize a system of rehabilitation that is not 12-Step based. The facility will provide intensive residential services in a beautiful setting in the mountains of Northern California. We chose the location that will house 4-6 residents at a time due to a belief that going to rehab does not need to be gloomy nor clinical in feel or look.
Over the next two months Jeff and I plan on a daily post on our various social media accounts. These posts will allow you to share our journey as we open a new opioid rehabilitation center. Please join us starting next week as we head towards December and the opening if our center! Please...
