It's unfortunate to say a lot has changed with the food and service since we came here last, which was last year. Came all the way from Colonial Heights to get the BBQ and sides for our special dinner. We just moved into our new home and not really set up fully yet, and its our monthly treat, so figuredgo here. The portions were extremely small and not all sides were available and we called first lol. Like the biggest metal spoon in your drawer, one spoonful of the sides. 1/2 cup of BBQ on each sandwich. Cabbage had potatoes in it, well there was 1 potato in my husband's, he really wanted potatoes and said it was alright.
We bought 3 BBQ dinner plates that had 2 sides each and 1 BBQ sandwich and 2 Starbursts and 1 20oz drink and then they charge 4% for using debit cards all totaled to $52! Even for a mom and pop shop it's a lot these days especially for the portion sizes we got tonight. They are always busy, they get a lot of business so I don't understand. I especially dont understand charging customers that use debit cards when these days cash isn't used much.
The Thanksgiving meal pictures had more food lol on the plates for the same price than ours tonight. My husband and 2 teenage boys, unfortunately were still hungry.
I thought Chick flia was high, but I can get 5 chicken sandwiches, 2 of them being a deluxe, 4 fries and 2 parfaits for $56 and everyone is full. Just wanted something different and some good BBQ tonight.
The BBQ tasted different, but okay for the most part, the BBQ sauces weren't labeled and I asked which one was sweet baby rays and I believe the one I was told wasn't it.
The squash was really good though! I couldn't really afford to get the banana pudding it was $5.45 for a deli sandwich tray amount unfortunately.
I don't know what changed, but we were really looking forward to the experience we had the last time we went and the bigger portion sizes etc. That was worth the gas, time and price for us. I don't like leaving reviews like this and only giving a couple of stars considering how amazing it was before, but I feel people should know beforehand. Also so hopefully the owner(s) will see and possibly make some changes or what not, to keep and gain customers. If it would allow me to add pictures I would so people could see for themselves and make their...
Read moreSmall convenience store that serves as a community center where everyone seems to know everyone by name and the pork chops can't be beaten. The chops are so big and yummy that my wife and I will split one for dinner, with sides. REAL sausage gravy and biscuits! Or for a one-handed breakfast at 70 mph, sausage egg and cheese croissants! Remember this is basically an old school country store, a small place with a small staff, and not everything is available at all time. Croissants are gone by 1100 and pork chops are usually Sun-Tues-Thur 1100-5pm. Lots of parking...
