Modern Table Top Gaming is a wonderful, veteran-owned, community focused game shop. Not only do they support a large amount of TCGs, but they also have collectibles, miniatures and paint, board games, and TTRPGs. We are fortunate to have so many card and gaming stores within a 45 minute radius of Richmond proper, and this store is at the top of the list!
The store is clean and feels open - they have two bathrooms, a water fountain, and multiple trashcans. There is a private room that you can ask to use or potentially reserve for TTRPG campaigns (like D&D).
They have Gamegenic, Dragon Shield, Ultra Pro, and Chessex accessories as well as other brands and game specific branded stuff.
There is a vibrant TCG community here as well. The store hosts Magic the Gathering events of multiple formats on different days throughout the week. They also have local level weekly events for Grand Archive TCG, One Piece, Lorcana, Union Arena, and multiple other games. If there is table space, you can come and free play with your friends. They even have a few demo board games you can play. The store does so well with TCG organized play support that they get to host larger regional events for multiple games. They carry singles, including some bulk singles, for a number of TCGs too.
The store has a few employees, all of whom are also gaming enthusiasts. They are very easy to connect with and even if you're not sure what you're looking for, one of them can surely help with a recommendation.
Definitely a great store to visit! And if you've read this far, come join us for Grand Archive on Fridays at 630PM. Come chat with our GA community in the store...
Read moreWanted to write this review, I have a huge group of friends that love Pokemon cards. Modern Table Top has the best prices despite the crazy market that Pokemon is going through. Some things I can't afford but I really am happy with the way that Journey Together and especially Destined Rivals was released for customers.
Gamestop is selling their items way over msrp and higher than MTT. So I appreciate the ownership at MTT for giving a fair price on nearly everything they had for Destined Rivals release.
We've been to other competitor card shops like Mulligans where their employees/owner limited my group of 3 to only allowing us to buy FIVE packs of Temporal Forces when they had a limit of 5 for each person. They considered us one household and it almost turned me off entirely from the hobby. Other card shops also charge crazy prices like Collector's Heaven charges $80 for a 151 bundle.. but Modern Table Top earlier this month had Blooming Waters for $100.. it's just a no brainer that 12 packs for $100 is better than 6 packs for $80.
Even though the store is far for me, and Modern Table Top has limits on Pokemon right now. The employees and owner they treat you as an individual customer fairly and it helps everyone still get product. Please...
Read moreI've played Mtg since 2011 and have played at most of the local gaming stores in the Metro Richmony Area. While I've had great experiences at most of the stores, MTT stands out.Amazing staff. Great people. Healthy environment. Competitive, but in a challenging way not intimidating. They do a great job catering to both new players of games and people who have played for a long time. Staff goes above and beyond. Recently, I told them about a cube I was building and they helped me find the cards I needed. I once got burned online buying a chase mythic for my Brother's birthday. I went to MTT to buy it and they knocked a few bucks off just cause it was for my Brother's birthday. That demonstrates the people they are. If I'm playing Fnm or doing a Prerelease, MTT is my first choice every time( and I pass at least 3 or 4 others to get there) support local gaming stores. Support good people....
