Disrespectful, Hostile, and Unfit for Leadership — Especially Toward Veterans
As a combat veteran, I’m deeply disappointed and disturbed by the treatment I received from the owner of Anytime Fitness at this location. What should have been a routine trip to the gym turned into an aggressive, humiliating, and frankly unsafe experience — all initiated by the owner herself.
While driving into the parking lot between Anytime Fitness and Safeway, I was startled by repeated honking from a low-profile car I hadn’t initially seen behind me due to my SUV’s height. That driver — who turned out to be the gym’s owner — then walked up to my vehicle in the parking lot, confronted me, and began yelling, cursing, and threatening to cancel my membership while mocking me and taunting me about whether I “still wanted to work out at her gym.” she claimed I slammed on my brakes, completely untrue.
I calmly tried to explain I think there’s a misunderstanding, but she continued escalating. Only after I told her I would start recording if she didn’t step away did she finally walk off. I went inside to cancel my membership and was met with further disrespect from her staff. The owner then returned, claimed I was “trespassing,” and canceled my membership on the spot. As I attempted to leave, she sent another staff member after me, who walked aggressively at my side and made threats of physical violence. I had to call 911 out of genuine concern for my safety.
I share this not for drama but to warn others. I never expected to be treated this way as a paying customer — let alone a U.S. combat veteran (I expect to be threatened by America’s enemy, not at home by fellow citizens at the gym). The conduct I witnessed was not just unprofessional — it was hostile, unsafe, and utterly devoid of basic human decency.
Also worth noting: the owner seems to have a defensive comeback or claims “no record of the customer” for nearly every negative review posted here (see for yourselves). That alone speaks volumes. Real leadership means accepting responsibility when things go wrong — and finding a way to make it right. That’s not what’s happening at this gym.
If you’re a veteran, a service member, or just someone who expects to be treated with respect, do yourself a favor and choose a...
Read moreI really enjoyed going to this gym off of Dublin and Austin Bluffs at first. I noticed the owner Laura was always watching me when I would work out. I brought a guest one time and I tried to bring another guest Another time not understanding her guest policy and she totally embarrassed me and was rude and told me I could not bring a guest in again.. Which is totally understandable per the rules, but she could’ve been a little nicer about it and more polite and maybe not have made a scene. I spoke with another owner at another location and he told me this was a reoccurring situation with others and I’m not the first person who’s had an issue with her. I will not be going to this gym anymore, and I will finish out my contract at another location. She definitely needs to get out of the industry or maybe Learn some customer service skills. As somebody who’s paying that much to go to a gym, she really had a nerve to make me feel disrespected and unwelcome.
This is me editing my review per Laura’s reply to my initial review . I chose this gym because it was close to home even though I have two other gym memberships that I use on a daily basis. I was trying to feel this gym out because it was cute and cozy but after the incident with you, I will be going to another location when I used Anytime fitness. You can say what you would like and tell me that I knew the policy beforehand which I did not until the second time I tried to bring a guest. The way you jumped out of your office and come running towards me asking me if I was so and so and saying that I cannot bring a guest again was very unprofessional. You could’ve handled it differently and maybe pulled me aside and talk to me instead of doing it right in front of the entrance. I have no issue following the rules, but the way you presented yourself was unprofessional. I also have a witness she was with me and we both agreed that you were hateful and unprofessional and this is not the first time that you have been this way towards another female and we both know it so good luck to you. You’re probably used to these kind of reviews. I wish...
Read moreOwner won’t enforce corporate rules regarding tying up equipment while on the phone. Told me no gym enforced this. When I sent her the corporate rules regarding phone use, she said I was being disrespectful and invited me to quit, which I did. If you want a good gym where you can sit at workout stations and play on your phone, this is the place for you! If you want to get in a good workout, pick someplace else.
In response to her note below:
Here is a copy I sent her of what I called a rule, which she says does not exist. It is listed under “Don’t”.
From Anytime Fitness web site on etiquette, in case you haven't read them: DO NOT: Be on your phone. Whether you’re blabbing on the phone, trying to get the perfect gym selfie to show-off your muscles, or mindlessly scrolling social media in between bench press sets or while in the squat rack, chances are you’re not paying attention to what’s going on around you and you’re most likely wasting not only your time, but others’ time, too. Plus, if you’re looking to get the best results from a workout, phones are the ultimate enemy. Not only do they cause you to lose focus, they also lower the intensity of your workout, too. Oh, and by the way, don’t even get us started on phones in the locker room—that’s an even bigger no-no. There is also one about interrupting and hovering at a station. She made-up quite a bit of things in her comments to me. Told me if I would just look around. I would notice that people are using their phones for training purposes. Nobody sits at a workout station for 15 minutes gazing at the screen and texting as part of a work out. In her response she acts like I will have a problem keeping a membership. I am 70 years old, have been in gyms for decades and can still out lift most members. Never had an issue with an owner until now, but there is an old saying… “Never argue with a Firefighter, we like it.” This whole ordeal was in response to an email I received from her wanting me to rate the gym. She is getting what she wants, so I wish her the best of luck and encourage those wanting a relaxing time on their...
