Fischer's Neighborhood Market — Local services in Converse

I know this sounds odd, but I'm telling you! I have no idea what my life would be like without the people who work and have worked at this location! This location is truly my favorite neighborhood convenience store. I have lived in a few places and come and go at times but every time I come back I stop in for a coffee or a black and mild (sometimes just to show my face and say hi). And I'm welcomed by the staff. Now I have worked retail a lot in my life and the generic "welcome in" greeting is so bland and overused. In my opinion, most people don't even consider it as a personal acknowledgement. But this store greets me and (from what I've seen) countless others with smiles and eye contact (when possible). These employees are always working and generally always happy. None have ever over burdened me with a "my day sucks story" even though I've at times told a few people about my day I'm never treated bad, oddly, or judged. In fact I find the quick response to the cash register when more than one person is in line so easing for my sometimes anxious moments. Sometimes when someone like me is experiencing a world falling apart moment or a season of life that is incredibly tough. I walk into a convenience store and I like to get in and out. I keep busy and try to look complete and content. These guys and gals are always upbeat, working registers as fast as possible, and cleaning. I was very disappointed in the service I received at this shell station. The cashier a young man name chis was so disrespectful and acted like I was wasting his time by just being in the store. I asked for a bag for my purchase and he said they were out. I saw a stack of paper bags so I asked for one. He gave it to me but gave me a angry look. As I made my way to the bathroom I noticed plastic bags behind counter where he was standing and I asked why he said they were out of bags. He then said they had a limited supply so he couldn’t give me one and that he gave me a paper one. Wow……I wonder what made me not a customer to be treated with respect. Was it because I am a woman or should I say African American woman or was it the fact I paid with cash to get the discount price. This place sells expired alcoholic beverages. My boyfriend purchased IPAs on 12/24/22 and when we tasted the alcohol it was disgusting. We went to check the expiration it had been expired since 6/10/22 by 6 MONTHS! When I went to return the alcohol an employee contacted their assistant manager Jayden. The manager stated there was nothing they could do per TABC law, once the alcohol leaves the store they can not return it or refund it.
