Because every negative review is ābaseless, ā says Timothy Westwimg, the Director. I have found this place to be very unfair and judgmental on families who truly love animals. My sister has shown her love and devotion to an animal that was surrendered by our parents. My sister is a grown woman (40)with a family and separate household from my parents and has tried to get this dog back from the moment she was surrendered. Actually even before when my parents were looking for another owner⦠my sister has mild CP and my parents felt it is too much for her with a dog⦠The shelter has had her jump through hopes and she has done everything and complied and showed up multiple times because she had a connection with this animal. She has been transparent with them since this all began a month ago and was told today that they will not give her the dog because of circumstances outside of her control and having to do with her parent coming in and asking what she can do to helpā¦. I understand there are policies for a reason but the policies donāt apply to my sister⦠she is a separate household and they have adopted from there beforeā¦twice. You feel the love and devastation when talking to my sister and I think the shelter is truly making a mistake on a family who would love this dog and already does love this dog. Kristen even mentioned the policy in place is there so families donāt take advantage of free vet and services even though my sister has been trying since the day she was surrendered and willing to pay whatever the cost may beā¦. The shelter has made a decision and it was totally based on our parents and not my sister or her husband and child⦠who have also come to the shelter to check in on the pup. I suggest supporting another shelter⦠itās not the animalsā¦the people look...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently adopted a pet from the Conway area humane society. It was a wonderful experience. Robyn was the person who did the meet and greet and the adoption process. Simply put she was amazing! She spent adequate time in making sure all aspects were covered to ensure that Levi (aka enchilada) would be a good fit to our home and more importantly to her that we would be a good fit for Levi. I had Tink my dog with me for the meet and greet. Robyn made sure all areas of safety concerns were met and handled carefully. It was clear to me how much she cared not only for Levi but of all the animals at the shelter. She was extremely thorough with the adoption process as well and at the end asked if I had any questions. My reply was no, however in my mind I was thinking as soon as I get home I would think of something. That was not the case. Thatās how informative she was throughout the process. I had the opportunity to meet and speak with a few of the other staff members before leaving with my new baby boy and I found them all to be equally caring and friendly. The shelter itself was clean and it smelled clean and that was quite impressive to me. Now hereās something even more impressive. A week or so later I stopped by with Levi so they could see how well he was doing. Levi knew where he was as soon as we arrived and the car was parked. He became very excited to be saying hello to his friends at what had been his home for a while. Upon entering the shelter several of the staff members including Robyn was there and Levi greeted them all with excitement, LOVE and lots of kisses. To me this says it all! What a wonderful place filled with such loving and caring people. It doesnāt get any better than that. Thank you for letting Levi become part of our family. We love...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI spent $3,000 in vet bills on a dog that died 10 days after adoption. First of all, I acknowledge that it is absolutely not the shelterās fault that they donāt have the funding for a full time staff, but as a result the animals are almost always unsupervised. This means that a dog could be having seizures that no one knows about - which is what happened to me. It turns out my dog had an inoperable brain tumor and had to be put down after a traumatic 3am hour long drive to the emergency vet while he seized in my backseat. I am emotionally and financially devastated.
Again, Iām not giving a negative review because I think the shelter is at fault. Their love for the animals in their care is obvious, which is why Iām not trying to knock down their rating with a 1 star review. The issue is a much bigger one regarding how we as a society prioritize funding for helpless animals. That said, I would have liked some warning, or more awareness, that serious medical issues could go unnoticed prior to adopting, and I feel itās only right to warn others of this potential outcome.
Once my finances stabilize, Iāll be giving a monthly donation in memory of the pet I had for 10 days in hopes that the money can go towards more staff and better supervision, and ultimately keep others from having to go through what I did. I encourage everyone reading this to consider...
