Normally, this is a fun place to go with the family. The game keepers are typically kind and are great at giving helpful hints. They aren't too serious and want you to succeed, but maybe that's a thing of the past. This evening we were really let down.
It began with being started late for our session, which isn't typical. Our game keeper was not very helpful. We could hear the boys goofing off the entire time behind the counter as we attempted to solve the movie themed room. We were given only 1 hint, which was strange since the most difficult rooms often give at least 3 hints while the easiest give up to 5. When we asked for our hint, our game keeper took a while to respond. We had to ask four times over the course of two minutes to get a response, which is critical in a timed game. The room was also falling apart. A beam fell on my father and brother which the employees had attempted to nail before we entered. Also, the lighting was really bad. Rooms can sometimes be dark to match the theme, but we couldn't see the locks or read anything. We couldn't even see each other very well. In the past, we had been permitted to use our cell phones as flashlights as long as there were no photos taken, which we understand. We were told we were not allowed to use our cellphones because it was cheating, even with them just as flashlights. We were walking into each other because it was so dark, it's difficult to cheat when you can't even see. After that, things were fine and we unfortunately did not win the game, but that happens and what matters is having fun. The whole attitude of the staff this evening took away from that fun. We were informed that they will be getting more lighting for the room soon, which would help greatly for future players.
It just seemed that Mystery NH was under new management or had changed in a significant way. I really hope they reconsider things because it is something we as locals enjoy. I hope these recommendations and critiques are helpful, I'd like to have the more positive experiences I remember there...
Read moreWhen we walked in we were greeted by a condescending and rude gentleman. That was very off-putting. This is the only adventure room we've all ever been to that were repeatedly told a dozen times not to break anything, making you feel like you couldn't even touch anything in the room. We get it, you need everything to work well to keep your business open but... it makes you feel unwelcome. Also when we met our game master the guy was screaming during the directions. Very weird. Unnecessary and again, uncomfortable.
Several of the locks in our room were not legible and you couldn't physically read letters or numbers on the locks- so it made it challenging to progress in the room even when you had the right answer. If you want to make a room hard that is totally fine, but don't make it unsolvable because customers can't even read the locks. Several of the props in our room were also either very cheaply designed or didn't work unless you used them just right. It was too much- you shouldn't have to spend so much time just making a prop work, it takes away from the solving of...
Read moreZero stars. Manager is on a power trip. Came in and inquired about booking and was told we can walk in or book online but they were full for the day. We came back two days after booking online with our same group and were told we could not bring a child inside because we did not call ahead. We asked what would have happened if we were a walk in and they had no answer. We asked to speak to a manager and the kid with the pony tail identified himself as a manager and was the same person we had spoken to two days earlier and knew we had a child with us. We asked why she can't come in and he said because she will pull on our arms and ruin our experience we said that would not be an issue. A female staff came out and we tried explaining to her that we had been here two days earlier talking to the same manager and she said we absolutely can't come in because we didn't call ahead and have a conversation. Asked her to have a conversation in person because we are here and she refused, said we weren't working with her and need to leave. Asked for our money back and...
