Let me start by saying I do not fish. However, I go up north with people who do so we have stopped at Northwoods Bait And Tackle in Cook MN occasionally. Joe and Kelly are just wonderful people. I have had nothing but great experiences each time I have stopped. The last time was a memorable experience I will never forget. Our son is convinced their leeches are unkillable. They are more than generous with the portions and their prices are reasonable. We were last there a week ago. Kelly charged our teenage son less than the price she quoted him. He asked me if there was room in our cooler for his leeches, then said "Oh they will be fine, it's only 45 minutes" Kelly disappeared and returned with a Styrofoam cooler and a bag of ice. "One of our customers has to have special refrigerated medicine shipped in so we have a bunch of these coolers. This is my personal ice for cocktails but I will spare you some." Before I had my wallet out she profusely thanked us for stopping. She said that due to the pandemic, their business was down about 70 percent. (This was after I watched her refuse payment from a regular customer who appeared to possibly be homeless. "You served our country and your money is no good here") I gave her a very large tip and was almost moved to tears. This was the start of our families 50th year going to Crane Lake. Best bait shop in town, cant be beat. The owners take a great level of pride operating a very neat and well cared for bait and tackle shop. A great selection of tackle for multi species on Vermilion, elite JT rod assortment, local resort info and some fun trinkets and extras. Liquor and fuel is close as well as grocery. I always buy my bait here. It is not only priced better, the bait is actually in better condition. They trap their own bait and it is very fresh... that seems to be the difference.
