My family of 9 was excited to experience the great breakfasts we’ve heard so much about at Montana Cafe so we made the 23 mile trek into Cook.....UNFORTUNATELY we had HORRIBLE service!
We had 2 tables and neither were acknowledged nor given eye contact by the staff for thirty minutes....we had to chase down a waitress, get our own menus and as we watched others who came in after us get waited on our frustration grew. ( we thought maybe because we are not locals? We are here to spend money though...) We waited a total of 65 minutes from the time we arrived until we got our food! When the food came we had to ask for silverware so we were able to eat it. BTW, the food was a C+. I would imagine we would have rated it higher if we would have received it in a timely matter but our frustration got the best of us! We typically don’t keep track of timing but we were so STEAMING MAD my entire family wanted to get up and leave after ordering to prove a point but instead suffered through the wait being entertained by all the folks being turned away without acknowledgement counting the number of tables (9) that were sitting and waiting as we were and the dissatisfaction they showed on their faces! We noticed many customers were turned away as they were also not acknowledged and not greeted with a friendly face to be told “we will seat you as soon as possible “ It became evident that more people were waiting than eating, a sign that we should have paid attention to when we walked in. It was especially entertaining as it was disgusting when The server with long blond hair was running her fingers through it & flipping her beautiful head of hair upside down in front of guests by the kitchen to get a ponytail in it and then touching the beverage glasses and plates of food without washing her hands! Thankfully it wasn’t our food coming out of the kitchen!! We really want Megan (who we don’t know and haven’t met) to succeed! We love her story of being a young new business owner who took a chance, raised funds to better the restaurant and wants to keep her small community thriving. We are hoping that the restaurant was understaffed the day we were in ...????? Here is a suggestion we are offering that would have appeased us.... Just acknowledge us when we walk in, greet your guest, make eye contact when customers are sitting and waiting for service... explain that the restaurant is slammed and that the long wait would be worth it. Maybe Megan could even introduce herself to the patrons as the PROUD NEW OWNER......that way I think everyone would cut her and her restaurant some slack and visit again. I think if the staff would have been a bit more organized with the turnaround they would have had a “Banner day” and more people would’ve walked out of there knowing they planned to revisit! We sincerely wish Megan the best of luck but today wasn’t worth a 46 mile round trip for us. Sadly I’m not sure when or if we...
Read moreMy parents and I decided to go to the Montana cafe for a meal around 11:30 on Sunday of Labor Day weekend. We walked in and two young men had gotten up and left their menus on the table, so we sat down. We sat for awhile without being greeted. About 10 minutes later, a family walked in and sat down at a nearby table. Quickly they were greeted and given menus. The waitress then turned back around and did not come over to us. My family and I decided to leave and go elsewhere for lunch. We can only assume the young men before us had left because they hadn't gotten...
Read moreReally good food with friendly service. I came here with my cousin and we tried fried pickles for the first time in my life. It was delicious! The chicken salad wrap was also something I would eat daily. There is street parking, it’s wheelchair accessible, and have daily milkshakes, soups, sandwiches, and salads. The wild rice is sourced locally and I think that’s pretty cool. The coffee is just okay but good for a road trip.
I would recommend it as a pit stop on your way up north! They even sell some of the wild rice that you can cook...
