I would give Bay Area Hospital zero stars if it was possible. I went into the ER on 4/29 AT 3:28PM per my ob orders due to a badly infected Bartholin Cyst. I explained to the ER staff that I was nervous to have it lanced and a catheter put in because previously another hospital that had attempted it before in the past had messed me up worse and I didn't want a repeat of that. Dr.Amy assured me that she had done this before and was comfortable doing. They did have an ob on call and Dr. Amy was getting in touch with them. Dr. Amy came back and let me know that the ob wasn't going to come and do it but that she was more than capable of doing it. Dr. Amy was very nice and patient with me due to the pain I was in but I still was nervous. She brought in another dr, I think it was. It was a male and then a rn while Dr. Amy did this. Dr. Amy said she had never placed the exact catheter I needed in before and that's why the gentleman was there. Dr. Amy drained the cyst but it didn't feel like she got everything out. So, I asked if she got everything out and Dr. Amy said yes and that it was all pretty much blood left. Dr. Amy then explained she was putting catheter in and then we were done. I was still swollen, Dr. Amy said to take the pain meds and go home to rest and that all my bloodwork was normal and that I should be better in a day or so but would still be sore for a few weeks/bleeding which is normal. I left still in very bad pain even the pain meds didn't touch the pain and just made me sick instead. After numbing wore off it didn't feel like the catheter was placed in the right spot and it wasn't draining out of the catheter like I thought it should be and I ended up having a fever for 2 days and getting really sick. I was in excruciating pain and barley able to walk. My mother took me to Mercy ER in Roseburg where they were absolutely amazing to me and saved my life. The dr was appalled at what this ER did to me they not only lied about my bloodwork being normal which it wasn't and showed my Procalcitonin Value at 0.06 High(Normal range: below
Read moreMy wife and I had our 3 kids here several years ago. Before we had them, we went to the birthing classes to get ready. With the 1st and 3rd kids, everything was great, the staff were wonderful and the billing was. We really like Heather Maclean and the OB nurses were great too. I've also had some surgeries there as well which were a fantastic experience and the billing as all handled well & met deductible.
However, despite all this, their billing practices leave... well... EVERYTHING to be desired, in 2019. What they did was nearly fill up each category of our insurance so we never meet deductible. When my Wife and baby had to stay in the hospital an extra day, our bill was double the size. Because of the extra day, you would have thought we easily met deductible compared to our first child, but no. They filled every category to within $20-$50. Keep in mind each insurance deductible slot was $500 - $2000 with seperate categories for my wife and categories for family. $7000 and we never hit deductible in any slot so we literally had to pay for the whole thing out of pocket. I get that their billing department wanted nothing to do Moda, which was our insurance at the time, but you can't expect people to shoulder the entire burden because Moda is such a bear to deal with.
I had "raised voice" conversations with their billing department about our 2019 baby due to their unethical billing. However, my initial conversations were level-headed, but after speaking with a particular lady (don't remember her name), it was obvious she was a B** and didn't want to help at all. She was pig-headed and said that once "the billing categories are applied, they are unchangeable" (lie), "so you are responsible for whatever is left". I responded with: THE ISSUE IS... NOTHING WAS BILLED TO INSURANCE AND WE SHOULDERED THE WHOLE THING. She responded with: "TOO BAD". We ultimately had to take out a loan to pay this off because they tried to send us to collections on multiple occasions even when trying to set up payment plans (before the argument). To this day 2024 we are still trying to pay off that loan.
That said, our other two kids easily met deductible (with the same insurance), but their billing was in 2016 and 2021 respectively, we set up payment plans which are fully paid off.
If I had the money for an attorney, I would have sued them in 2019 for unethical billing practices. It's amazing how corrupt some people are. I highly doubt it was the whole billing department who were so arrogant and rude in 2019, but instead one or two who didn't want to deal with Moda & didn't care who's lives they were...
Read more(Review for overnight staff only) I went to the emergency room 2 nights ago for intense back and abdominal pain. Was diagnosed with a UTI as well as Flank Pain. I was prescribed medicine for the UTI and was given advice about the Flank pain. Came home only to realize they didn’t ask me what pharmacy I wanted the prescription to be sent to. I was given a piece of paper saying what I was prescribed which was an antibiotic for my UTI, and I vividly remember my nurse telling me that I will take 2 pills once a day for a total of 5 days. I called to politely ask what pharmacy my prescription was sent to, and was roughly told “you didn’t get a prescription here. It must’ve been some other doctor. Last night we only diagnosed you with flank pain.” Very disrespectful. I have a paper that says differently. I feel like the people there just simply don’t care about their patients health or wellbeing. I really have never been treated so small and insignificant at a medical center before. My mom has worked in the medical field my entire life and I’ve never seen or heard of this. It’s one thing that they didn’t ask me where my prescription should be sent to, that’s not a big deal. But to sit and say that they didn’t diagnose me with a UTI or prescribe me medication when I have proof in my hands.... I 10/10 do not recommend this facility. I would really suggest driving further even if you have an emergency because these people will not take you seriously or give you the care that you deserve. I was in the room for 3 and 1/2 hours while at least 20 staff members (doctors, nurses, etc.) sat outside in a group and were making rude and judgmental comments about patients that were in the rooms right next to mine. They didn’t respect confidentiality and I by the time I left I could tell you why every single person was in the emergency room.
I went back there this morning and showed the receptionist the paper of my prescription and she told me I can take the paper anywhere and get my antibiotics. I’m new to the area and have never had to do this before so it was nice that she took the time to let me know. She was very sweet and when I told her the situation she seemed surprised and definitely concerned. Maybe day shift is a different story, but the night crew definitely turned me off on...
