I'm really torn about this review, but I have to say what must be said: This was a disappointing experience.
There is a lot of construction going on, so there are no amenities and no clubhouse. The staff are in a trailer. Okay, no big deal. You have to do what's necessary, right? Well, that would be nice. But they didn't even have a bathroom, just a portable john.
The conditions were spotty. There was tons of crabgrass growing everywhere--even infecting what would otherwise be pretty good greens. They play fast, but they're bumpy, which is a horrible combination. There are no sand bunkers on the course, which you may consider a feature or a bug depending on your game, I guess.
Five of the holes had temporary tees out in the fairways, rendering this course to being (largely) a par-3 layout.
Of course, there was no beverage service or just about anything else you might need or want before or after playing the round.
Obviously, based on the reviews, this course has seen finer days. The layout was okay, but very narrow and difficult to judge where to hit the ball if you haven't played it before.
Now the three things that REALLY bugged me about this round. First, with all of this going on, they have the nerve to charge full price for the round, which was $63 for two (including tax, including a riding cart--which you absolutely must take because of the layout of the course). That's ridiculous. Lousy conditions, temporary tee boxes, zero amenities, yet full price?
Second, not a thing about any of this appeared on their website. We came from 100 miles away, so there was no way around it all after arrival. It's not like we could just turn around and go home. We were sold a pig in a poke.
Finally, what really bothered me is how little they said when we paid our greens fees. Oh, sure, they had a piece of paper lying on a desk saying there were holes with temporary tees, but no indication of the lousy conditions, nor that the temporary tees weren't just off to the side or in front of the regular tee boxes (which were horrible), but that each of those holes was shortened dramatically, changing the entire character of the golf course.
On paper (and on the Web), this looked like a nice little 9-holer. In reality, it was a sad effort, with zero consideration for the customer. I'm not disappointed so much with the (hopefully temporary) conditions. But I am VERY disappointed with how it is being managed...
Read moreI'll start with I tried to book on their website. There was a special for $22.99 to play 18 holes with a cart. I tried to book online through their website and it kept having an error. I called the pro shop and let them know and confirm the spot. I was told we'll adjust when you get here, it must be something with golf now. I told him I'm not trying to book with golf now I'm on your website. I get to the course and the guy at the desks say I talked to my boss and I can't discount the rate. There were 4 of us and I said, fine we'll just play 9. He charged me $37 for a total of $162.56 for the four of us. We should have just let but we wanted play since we were there. Now let's talk about the condition of the course, somehow this place has a rating of 4.5, thinking that it's a Troon course, maybe it will be decent, I couldn't have been more wrong. The course was in horrible shape, dirt patch tee boxes, punched greens etc. I'll never play here again or...
Read moreI’ve been visiting Sedona from Salt Lake City, and enjoyed playing on this short but challenging 9 hole course today (around 7:45 am this morning). The course seemed in decent shape and everyone was very nice. I do have an issue with my charges though. When I first got there, I mentioned to the front desk person that though I’m starting out with nine, I might cycle back and play them again. He said yes you can stop, pay and resume with play. I did end up playing 18 holes. However he charged me $70 in total ($35 twice) instead of $47 which he should have charged me. He said he’d only been there a week and couldn’t figure out how to work the system to charge me the lower amount. So I ended up overpaying by $23. Not a small sum! And not cool at all!
