PREFACE: If you see animals here in bad shape- or any other pet store for that matter, for the love of god DO NOT BUY THEM even if you feel really bad and want to "save" them. Buying animals in bad conditions just increases demand and doesn't improve anything in the long run. You're saving the life of one animal but condemning countless more to the same fate and although it's rough seeing one suffer, your purchase only puts a number on an order screen that essentially says "people are buying these, buy MORE". And when applicable, ADOPT, DON'T SHOP!!
Went in here with my mom on a whim to see some cute animals after my graduation and possibly pick up a new fish or invertebrate buddy, about 5 minutes later left because she was horrified at the conditions the animals were kept in. Still in a bad mood even a whiiiiile after I left, never wrote a store review in my life and never a BAD review but this was the actual worst pet store I've been to. I didn't bring my phone, otherwise I most certainly would've taken pictures to back me up- won't be coming back to take them for this review, that's for sure. Yuck.
Like, the only positive thing I can say about this place is "at least the bettas aren't in cups they can't turn around in", despite being a betta owner who knows they need at least 2.5 gallons (although I personally would say at LEAST 5 gallons per fish), a heater + filter and places to hide. None of the aquatic animals were provided light and you could barely see into the tanks, there were so many rodents crammed into the tanks that I couldn't see the bottom (especially prevalent in the rabbit cage), the smell was really, really bad and permeates everywhere you go in there, birds were fighting the whole time, I don't remember seeing hamster wheels despite hamsters typically running what's equivalent to a couple MILES at nighttime (capped at 5 1/2), and my mom was especially upset over a parrot who was given absolutely nothing in its cage, no toys, a single perch and was in between a bunch of the fighting birds. Looked stressed out of its mind and had pulled a lot of feathers out.
And don't get me STARTED on the puppies, I personally don't even like dogs that much but seeing a bunch of puppies in tiny cages was just awful. They're active little things and need more than just two feet of room to run around in. There's probably more I missed, only was in there for a few minutes and noticed some tarantulas while I was leaving- that I pray were well taken care of since they're precious little things- but that's what I mostly noticed.
I should've said "let's just go somewhere else" the second I saw the "puppy SALE" sign on the outside, I just thought it was a local fish store from a distance and thought it could be cool but I was sorely disappointed. I get it, it's temporary and the animals that live won't live there their whole lives but man...that's rough. If the two places constantly ridiculed by the small pet owner community for providing inadequate care for their animals, Petco and Petsmart, do a better job at taking care of their stores run by employees who typically don't have much knowledge on the animals they sell...then I'm not sure what...
Read moreThis place is insanely gross. Me and my husband went in to buy a puppy, there was one little guy in particular that we fell in love with instantly! As we were cashing out i noticed that he had alot of eye goo and i asked the cashier if he had a cold, she told me (after starting paperwork and taking my payment) that he had kennel cough and was on antibiotics. We took them home with us only to learn the dosages they were giving him were HALF of what was prescribed on the bottle.!!! After a few days we took him back to see there vet (which is a requirement by the store, for warranty on the pup) and bought a second bottle of antibiotics so he could could get the proper dosage. 1 week later, after finishing the second bottle of antibiotics we noticed our pup having runny stools. Then he bacame lethargic and dehydrated quickly. We called on Sunday and talked with one of the employees who informed me this particular pup had been sick since he came into there shop!! And they willingly put him on the shelf to sell ill!!!! I went back into the store and asked to see there vet, they sent me out to 84th for an examination. When we got there it was just a regular clinic that had NO MEANS to properly check the pup. I told this vet by his symptoms i believed he had parvo. She insisted it was a common bug and i was being dramatic.then she tried sending me to another vet( witch they were in cahoots with) at this point i spoke with the owner of the store and demanded to take him to my own vet, on their dime so we could actually see someone who knew what they were doing. He agreed to all costs and told me to take him in because they "stand by their animals".. 20 min at my vet and he was PROPERLY diagnosed with parvo and started on iv fluids and antibiotics. I called the owner to warn him that my vet said my puppy had missed his last parvo shot and what the treatment plan(and payment was.) The owner told me to bring over the bill and we would get it taken care of. The next day we went in with the bill and he had changed his tune, saying he was NOT RESPONSIBLE for the illness and it would be on the vet not him. After 3 attempts of talking with him i finally contacted a lawyer and told him we would be going to small claims court if he did not stand by his word. He then tried offering half and finally caved on the full. This business should be ashamed of what they sell and how they treat their animals and customers. I will NEVER RETURN and i do hope that this place is taken down for negligence, along with the vet. I am absolutely appalled. The only hopes now is we got our baby to a REAL vet in time to get...
Read moreFirst bird my mother purchased from here for about $200 had deformed toe nails & store told her that is how birds come or nails would correct themselves. Nails never did. Bird was supposed to be a male. Bird was a female that lays eggs. I didn't realize this was the store she got birds at & went on xmas eve to get her 2 more birds, both were supposed to be males & turned out to be females, one of those has something wrong with his beak & beak has to be sanded down. I bought a yellow guaranteed male singing canary right after xmas, which is now sitting on eggs & not a male bird. Poor thing sat on her eggs for 3 weeks & for no babies. None of the males she sold me are males either. Now yellow bird has beak rot or something wrong with her beak. I bought a red finch at near $100 that is turning brown. Then 2 other finches she put in a pop tart box & they got our while putting them in cage, we had to search for 8 hours for these birds. My mom complained to store about her first bird & store demands you bring bird back, after you have become attached to bird & given bird a place in your home. I know store would say the same thing to me about the rest of these birds. We spent around $1,000 on these birds that aren't the sex store claims or are defective. Yet over priced. Then store can't even give you so much as a penny back afterwards. I also saw several puppies in store in small cages who were sitting in dog poop she wanted $700 each for them. If your going to sell defective birds those should be less money and if you don't know the sex, don't tell someone that bird is one sex or the other. Then let the person get attached and expect them to be able to return the bird when they find out it is defective or wrong sex. I feel store knows most people wouldn't return pet after becoming attached and feeds on this to get away with what they are doing. Just shameful.
