While the fairgrounds host a variety of events that are good (like the arts and crafts fair) my review is going to mainly be focused around the st tammany parish fair. If I were you I would save my money and do something else.
It is extremely difficult to get any parking at all and you will probably spend upwards of 30 minutes looking for a spot until you get lucky. If it's raining then you can kiss your shoes goodbye because you will be stepping in nothing but puddles of water and mud. The rides are decent but the bands can be pretty expensive for what it is, and the lines can be extremely long.
Now here's the worst part of the fair- the games. The owners of the booths will basically cat call you to play their games and every single one is rigged somehow to take your money and give you either no prize or a small prize for the money. Last time I went one man changed up the rules SEVERAL times so I couldn't win a prize when I had done exactly what he had said before. Every game is similar and there is no variety, it is disgusting that they let these scumbags have booths at the fair.
The food is mid and the price is horrendously high for what it is with the food trucks run by brands that just want your money. They did however have one or two locals with food trucks that were better priced. Just a cup of lemonade was expensive as hell! And don't get me started on the alcohol that starts at 20 dollars and can go up even higher.
And the people, LORD the people, all you have are adults dragging their children around pissed off that they're there and they WILL take it out on you if you cross their path. I had several adults treat me like trash over the smallest things just because they were miserable standing in line for their kid.
Overall I wouldn't go here, not even for the animals (they seem miserable as well!) Just save your money and take your kids...
Read moreI took the kids last night and parking was an immediate challenge, but after going all the way down to the post office and turning around, I was able to secure a prime spot from someone leaving. We were immediately met with people selling food, and I didn't realize that they weren't part of the fair; but I should have bought food from them, as it was no doubt a better value and more of a meal.
Paid $3 bucks each to get it, there was a huge police presence, so that eased some of the "crowd concern," some. Food was EXPENSIVE, I paid $15 bucks for a bloomin onion, and $12 bucks for what was essentially a chicken breast on a stick. We all picked at these, but I knew I would still need to get dinner.
There were lots of rides, for both the young and the older. Bracelets were $30 bucks, but if I did it again- I'd just buy 30 tickets for $30. By the time we waited on all the really long lines, my two kids probably rode 8 things collectively. Lines made the Bracelets not worth it. Games were a trap, but they always are and I donated my share.
All in all, it was okay, but expensive for a just okay experience. Stay away from the games, only do the tickets and buy food from the trucks outside the gate and it would be an okay experience for...
Read moreThere are so many words I would like to use for this fair and the grounds. The parish fair doesnt have anything other than over priced rides, greasy food and alot of sweat and dirt. I want to see more crafts and family oriented fun other than over priced rides and games. I'd much rather pay at the gate for admission and have more to do. Also, there isn't enough shade or seating around the fair. I know you can go sit where the rodeo takes place but there isn't fans or anything happening in that area. This fair SUXS compared to every other fair that I have been to. With all the money the parish has, this once a year event should be so much better. O and it's not any one person's fault, but do to the lack of shade and seating, my son caught heat stroke after the first ride which was the...
