My father was rushed by squad from his assisted living facility a whole 6 minutes away to this ABYSMAL hospital. He had fallen and was bleeding out of his scalp. They stapled his wound shut and parked him in the hallway...WHERE HE SAT FOR THE NEXT THREE AND A HALF HOURS!!!! NO CT SCAN NO XRAY! So he sat and began getting worse and worse. He kept telling me he had a horrible headache and had to go to the bathroom. The hack nurse said to me twice "I'm workin' on it!". Then she proceeded to stand in front of the computer and talk about her upcoming houseboat trip, lemon pie recipes and joke around. NO IV has been started on my father who arrived around 11:15 a.m. He SAT ON HIS GURNEY, slumped over for THREE AND A HALF MORE HOURS with the excuse that there are no boards available to get his CT completed! They sent a kid named Tyler to all 7 floors looking for one. Then the radio announcer comes on that there is a Trauma coming in. The trauma patient goes DIRECTLY to the CT room across the hallway. HE gets scanned, meanwhile my father has ceased talking and I cannot get him to respond! After sitting there for nearly four hours they decide it's time to scan his head. Lo and behold!...he has a skull fracture and BRAIN BLEED SO SEVERE his ventricles have been pushed way off center. NOW they want to get an XRAY of his skull with a portable machine that I'd seen roll past us in the hallway only about a dozen times by this point. I also tell the XRAY tech that they need to XRAY his pelvis and she asked why? I said because he fell and was complaining of hip pain. *she claims to not know this even though the EMT's were told he had hip pain. NOW the nurse Miss Lemon Pie Houseboat decides it would be a great time to START an IV on my Dad! So she is struggling to get a vein and has to cross and type his blood. We've only been here four hours and came in by squad but NOW is when she decides to do this. Then they literally RUN him to the OR claiming the neurosurgeon had left for the day and was on his/her way back! Had they scanned him when he came in via SQUAD he'd not be the literal drooling vegetable his is today - three weeks later. THIS IS THE WORST PHUCKING HOSPITAL I'VE EVER VISITED IN MY FIFTY YEARS ON EARTH! IF YOU HAVE A LOVED ONE - AVOID THIS E.R. AS I WOULDN'T TRUST THEM WITH AN INGROWN TOE NAIL. The staff is great at playing on phones and sitting around TALKING - action is not in their forte. And apparently the boards for CT are lacking. If your Dad falls, I recommend taking him to a vet b/c so far his care has been lacking and they are treating him worse than a dog. They did not ask what meds he was on in order to continue them and the nurse literally admitted in front of me she 'forgot to turn' him so he doesn't get bed sores. Then they called us last week claiming he had hydroencephalytis and that he needed to have the excess fluid shunted in to his stomach. Then they called the next day telling us it's a major procedure. I tell them I will call my family and have a meeting then she calls back 51 minutes later to tell me "oops - he doesn't seem to have that, so no need for a meeting..." I've seen 19-year old combat medics do better than this place. AVOID...
Read moreSo many reasons for 1 star. This facility and its staff need to go through trainings to become trauma informed, especially when it comes to pregnant women. I have delivered 2 babies here & deal with severe pelvic floor issues because of how the delivery team made me deliver. Purple pushing is very bad and an outdated method of giving birth. I wanted to push but they wouldn’t let me until the doc arrived. Making a woman wait to push when she needs to is dangerous. Women’s bodies know how to birth, can we give this right back to them instead of having the power in the hands of OBs who just want to spend as little time as possible with the birthing mom?
99% of providers I’ve encountered here have a “drs know best” attitude & don’t allow for conversation nor questions without patronizing and they don’t appreciate patient voice/choice (although they say they do but this is for show…a lip service). I did have 1 OB- Dr. Marcrander- that did allow space for me to voice my concerns & she would provide her expertise but always let the decision be in my hands. I so appreciated this, she is excellent at what she does, but she is a rare one. If it wasn’t for her my experience at Mercy would have been even worse. They tried to give me 2 medications and gave me 0 information on side effects. It’s sad how much patients need to advocate for themselves these days.
Some lady from labs came to draw blood around 10pm. She was talking very loud & i asked her to be quiet since my baby just went to sleep & her response was “oh she’s fine” its like ummm no she wasnt sleeping very well & we finally just got her down. I would like her to sleep so i can get some sleep. It was very disrespectful and inconsiderate.
They don’t care about getting to the bottom of whatever’s wrong with you. That takes too much time, they will just offer a prescription & move on. They will run some generic labs at best.
We also used the ER for my 7 month old kiddo who was running a very high fever in the middle of the night. It was suspected to be a UTI & they wanted to do a catheter. I declined, took her to a different provider the next day who easily put a U-bag on her that she could pee into. No pain, no holding her down, no potential side effects like there is with a catheter. Why wasn’t this option offered? Now i owe $1,000 even with my insurance for an ER bill that was no help at all.
It is a beautiful hospital, up to date & a visually appealing place. The nurses in labor & delivery were very kind and understanding, especially when i didn’t feel comfortable complying with drs. Orders. The nurse manager came in & talked to me because I wanted to leave early & she wanted to make sure it wasn’t because of the nurse staff.
So sick of docs & medical facilities being out for money and profit rather than supporting and working for a person’s whole health. They want returning customers for life. & a healthy person has no need for a...
Read moreIf you’re nurses name is sammie steer clear Good evening,
I hope this email finds you well.. I’d like to address a few things that have taken place in the emergency department on June 3rd 3025.
I was checked in for severe pelvic pain. I was brought to a room relatively quickly. The physician i saw seemed to be thorough- until he wasn’t. The nurse I had Sammie was awful.
Sammie first did not know I had already given a urine sample. She did not know I had already gone to CT. She did not know any of my test results, she did not know anything when I asked about anything probably because she was too busy on her phone at her desk.
The four times I interacted with her from start to finish she seemed to be in a daze and eerily confused. I rang my light to get up to go use the restroom. She did not come. I asked somebody in passed about 15 mins after holding it. They let me use the restroom. My iv line fell on the floor. Sammie returned after i got back and reconnected the catheter to my iv line without cleaning it.. the doctor nor sammie told me i needed a full bladder for my pelvic ultrasound but some how sammie showed up asking if I had a full bladder.. i said no i just used the restroom 20 mins ago? (When she reconnected the iv????) and she said so nobody told you you needed a full bladder?? With an attitude. NO. You didn’t tell me. If you did why did you let me use the restroom? .. fastforward she makes me drink a bunch of water and ring my light when my bladder is full. Bladder was full. She didn’t show up for 20 mins. But the nice tech was able to get me moving. I do not understand the disconnect in communication or why she wasn’t paying attention.
When i got back i was placed in the corner again- nobody came to give me my results. Sammie draws back the drape and says are you guys ready to get out of here? Actually- no? I’d like my test results and to speak to a physician… she forced me to sign some paper and got my iv out. Gave me a prescription for percocet (which i did not want i gave it back) and a prescription for a stool softener (again- something I cannot have) so at this point i needed to speak to a doctor but she refused. My iv site started dripping blood down my arm seeped through 4 thick gauze pads and i asked sammie for help. She walked as slow as she could to her desk so i came out of my room and asked for help. She snapped at me told me i was being dramatic and she was coming.. and agressively wrapped up my arm. I am now severely bruised.. and traumatized from the er. She seriously hurt my arm and when i called to file a complaint the supervisor in charge cut me off and said sammie already told him about me… i’m sorry? What? This is unacceptable and I will be reaching out to the missouri board as well regarding my injuries from sammie. I hope i do not get...
