Roane State Community College — Local services in Crossville

Sonya Thomas is UNPROFESSIONAL. I went to Roane State before I was diagnosed with cancer, I was apart of the TN promise scholarship and I was attending classes. When I had gotten sick, I had ASSUMED my volunteer hours were still eligible, granted I should’ve asked. When I went to have a meeting with Sonya she had implied I was ready to go back to school, just needed to fill out some financial aid paper work as well as apply for that semester. She then had called me to tell me she didn’t realize that my hours were no longer eligible, now call me crazy, but a success coach is there to help you correct?? To guide you to make sure you become successful??? Boy was I wrong! So fast forward, she then tells me that I need to apply for the Foundation scholarship open on February 21, and then I could apply for the fall term. So February 21 rolls around, and I pull up the application, the application had been closed since 2015!!!! Absolutely ridiculous! When I had emailed Sonya to discuss this issue with her, she was apparently out until the 9th, I get it people have vacations, sick leave, etc. but this is not the only issue I have had with Sonya Thomas, she and I have had at least 3 previous issues, all of which when I tried to address them she was either away from her desk, or on leave and couldn’t answer her emails. Don’t get me wrong I love Roane State, but the success coach Sonya shouldn’t have a job there PERIOD. I honestly hope the dean sees this so she can be aware of the staff she’s hiring. Big waste of time. I needed a summer English course. It took a month to get them all the paperwork they "require" for a transient student.
