Nanci was our midwife when we had our little boy last year. I think she would probably be fine as a support midwife, or for an experienced mom, but as a first time mom I needed more advice and coaching. I expected more doula type help from her (she is also a doula, in addition to being a midwife), and I honestly called her too soon (again, inexperienced first time mom), but because of my "failure to progress" past five centimeters in a certain amount of time, I had to go to the hospital. I wish she had advised me to be moving more to help labor along. I was crocheting in the other room between contractions, and I should have been advised to be up and walking. I ended up having to go to the hospital because I didn't progress, and legally Nanci couldn't help me anymore (the hospital said I could go back home). Anyway, I ended up with a crumby doctor, and I just expected more from her. So glad I didn't end up going to Cy-Fair hospital though, which was her original plan if I was transferred, but it has a 70% c-section rate! If I ever used her again as a midwife I would hire a separate doula, and not call her until the very last moment. Also, even though she did not come see me as many times postpartum as she was originally going to, and the hospital ended up doing some of her work (birth certificate and social security paperwork), a partial refund of the fees we paid wasn't an option. It could have been worse, and I understand she was limited legally, but I feel like she could have done more to help me get the birth I wanted, by encouraging me to move more before it was too late, and by being more on my side at the hospital. Even if I would've ended up being transferred anyway, at least I would've felt like she tried her best. A friend of mine who also used Nanci got transferred to the hospital in her birth just a week before mine, because she was told by Nanci that she could/should push before she had the urge to, and the mother ended up exhausting herself because it wasn't time yet. I expected Nancy to practice the Bradley method, since those are the classes she advised us to take. As a first time mom, she was not the right fit for us. Again, I think for a very experienced mom she might be a good option, but I would not recommend her for a first...
Read moreMy husband and I are so grateful to say Nanci delivered our little angel. It was our first home birth after having our firstborn in the hospital with an epidural. Everyone asks me would I do it again. The answer is ABSOLUTELY! After one consultation with Nanci, I left my traditional ob/gyn and never looked back. The difference between my traditional visits and midwife visits were night and day. I left my appointments feeling amazing. Nanci is the perfect combination of concerned, experienced and reassuring. Her confidence allows you to relax and truly enjoy the experience. She is extremely careful not to put mother or baby at risk. There were so many "best" parts: freedom to labor wherever or in whatever position my body desired, being surrounded by so many people I loved, NO TEARING, authentic baby bonding. My mother, who was initially very nervous, was so impressed that I overheard her calling family members and bragging about how professional Nanci and her team were. She was so shocked at how little she needed to do and how efficiently they handle everything. By the time they left there was nothing left to do but love on our newest bundle of joy. I'm overjoyed that I found her and felt like "we" were cared for...
Read moreI used Nanci as my midwife 3.5 yrs ago and I am using her again for this one due in April... I had 3 children with my 1st husband, all with midwives and NONE of them gave me the information Nanci did! I was so much more informed all around I couldn't believe my previous ones didn't tell me much! Also with ALL 3 of them I tore during birth. Nanci did something and totally prevented that last time...I was sure I'd tear again since his hand was up by his head, but she knew what to do and got him to pull his hand back in too! Just those 2 things were amazing for me, but her calmness, her true care for her clients and their babies, her patience, her bedside (or poolside in my case!) manner... she is seriously amazing as a midwife. I would ONLY use her from 3.5 yrs ago on!! On the 5 star scale I...
