I used to live in South Florida. If you're familiar with that part of the world, you know that every mechanic is a con-artist looking for new and unique ways to rob you of your hard-earned money while convincing you they're doing you a favor.
My car started making a very strange grinding and rubbing noise when I was taking a left turn. I suspected it might have been a control arm, wheel hub, or something else suspension-related and was nervous. We've been in the area only about a year, and I had no clue who was a good mechanic that could help fix the car and not drain my bank account.
I was at a Marshall Area Business Administration meeting and bumped into someone who referred me to Deerfield Tire & Auto and told me to ask for Troy. A few weeks later, I got the gumption (mostly because I was tired of having a car I couldn't use) to wander down to see Troy and I have to say, I was shocked.
Troy and I went for a little test drive. In less than a block, he was able to take a reasonable guess as to what was wrong. He figured it was coming from the rear passenger side wheel, whereas I thought it was the left front wheel. He got the car up on the rack and let me know it was nothing suspension-related (whew) and instead was a brake problem, with the possibility of it requiring new calipers and possibly needing new bearings. He told me it might be as simple as new pads and rotors (the rear brakes were completely worn through).
As it turned out, all it needed was new pads and rotors. Troy called me several times to give me updates as to what was going on and how he was ruling out some of the worst-case scenarios (your calipers reset perfectly... your bearings are fine).
He could have easily taken us for a ride (pun intended) and just told me it was all of those things, and I wouldn't have been the wiser. But, he was honest, he communicated everything, and treated us with respect.
I was so impressed with Troy that, when I picked up my car yesterday, I dropped off my Jeep for tire replacement. I was having some uneven wear on the front tires, where other mechanics had said, "That's a Jeep thing and it'll cost you about $600 in suspension work, a CV joint, and then you'll need to buy tires, too."
Nope. He gave me the cost of two tires, he then tested the alignment and it was as simple as the tires were too far toed out. An alignment was $89 and would fix the entire issue (on top of the tires). He showed me the before/after readings of the alignment and we were on our merry way.
The next time I have an issue that can be addressed by his shop, I'm taking my vehicles here. He instilled trust and made me feel comfortable with the...
Read moreI want to share my story with everyone about Troy, the owner of Deerfield Tire & Auto. I own a smaller plow company, with this being said when the snow comes it's very important that my truck is running properly. Last Friday night a small snow storm was coming upon us. I was hooking up the plow to my truck when all of a sudden my power steering went out. I called Troy at 8:00 pm, he was out enjoying a date night with his wife. A very needed night, as hours have been long for him the past months. I was very frantic and explained what was going on and the importance of my truck on snow days. He finished dinner with his wife, opened his shop, and rushed my truck to the lift. He fought rusted parts, obstical after obstical and proceeded to push through until he fixed my truck and got me back on the road once again. I expected a very large bill ( and under the circumstances deserved one) but to my absolute surprise his rate was amazing. I couldn't be more impressed, amazed and down right speechless. Troy, you’re truly a blessing. My family and I truly thank you from the bottom of our hearts. To his wonderfully understanding wife, I apologize for cutting your date night short, I can’t thank you enough for your understanding. We will never go anywhere else for our auto needs. You are an amazing business and I can not give you a higher...
Read moreSo, fun story, I was traveling across the country (moving actually, I had just driven 1400 miles) when I grabbed a green handle pump at a BP station, I was so tired that I didn't notice that BP actually used green handle pumps for their gas and a yellow one for diesel, I got a sniff of gas in the air and realized I had put 6 gallons of 91 octane in my diesel.
I drove it across the street to Deerfield, seriously angry with myself as well as BP knowing just that could blow up my engine, and told them the story of my random tired and exhausted act of stupidity. They were very helpful and willing in a pinch to help me flush my fuel tank and put a new fuel filter in my truck. They also let me help out (as we did the work outside)
I'm sure they were super busy (they definitely looked the part) and took the time to help me in my time of need, they were very kind and considerate and an employee even went home to get an empty barrel to keep my (at this point almost) worthless fuel mix. (saving me tons on a recycling fee.
They also reached out to see how things were going after the fact.. I so appreciated that kind of care.
These folks are lifesavers, and I would %1000 use their services...
