"Buy local" is great, but it only works if you have a great local store. This is my go-to place for garden supplies, bird seed, hard-to-find household items and so on. They sell garden seeds by the ounce; I got almost everything I needed at half the cost I would pay for a mail order. Prices on everything are very reasonable or better -- my sunflower seeds were $12 lower than the last bags I bought elsewhere. This is the kind of store grandpa would visit to pick up seeds in a mason jar for grandmas acre large veggie garden, or feeders for the backyard chickens. Odds and ends are placed on wooden shelves spread among many rooms. The floors creak and the aisles are small and close. The range of tools and uncommon fixtures give it an almost magical air.
