OtterTail Pet Resort — Local services in Delmar

My wife & I feel comfortable in giving a fair evaluation and sharing our experience with boarding our dog at the Otter Tail Pet Resort. Please find the criteria that is most important to us in boarding our dog: (Otter Tail Pet Resort Rating on 1-5 Scale with 5 being excellent)

#1 - A Clean, Neat Boarding Facility = 4 (Clean, nice outside presentation)

#2 - Owners/Staff who really like dogs = 3 (Haven't really witnessed enough of the owners interaction with the dogs - Heard about her personal dogs but have not seen the interactions to verify. Yes, she shows & breeds dogs. Staff seems to be okay with dogs)

#3 - Programs and/or a Facility which provides the dog exercise and/or outside time = 4 (Shown the outside fenced areas for the dogs to run)

#4 - A Facility which allows the dog to have personal objects (toy bear, blanket or bed cushion) with them during their stay = 2 (Not allowed to have any blankets, etc. - allowed a small piece of owners clothing e.g. tee shirt for the dog to smell)

#5 - Sleeping Bed that is not directly on the floor = 3 (Was shown the canvas dog beds that are supposed to be provided for the dogs in their area)

#6 - We want to see the actual space or area that the dog will be staying = 1 (Not allowed to see the actual area the dogs are being kept - told that having customers coming through is very disruptive to the dog? - This is real concern - since it prompts the question "what are you hiding or what are we not supposed to see?")

Important Issues to Pay Special Attention to when boarding with this facility:

#7 - A Reservation Policy = 1 (A very strict and unlike any other boarding facility we have experienced. 7 Day Cancellation Policy which does not allow for any alterations what so ever to the dates of the stay. Any additions or deletions of days for a stay constitutes a loss of your deposit of $ 56.00 as well as any cancellations after the 7 Days and time of reservation. E.g. Reservation for Friday at 10:00 a.m. must be cancelled 7 days prior to Friday at 10:00 a.m. or you will forfeit your deposit. We cancelled a reservation at 4:00 p.m. and were told that this was not acceptable in the future but that we would be given a onetime pass on losing the deposit. Recommend that all reservations be requested in writing & ask for a written confirmation for your records. Per the web site you can call to cancel your reservation or make changes by phone - strongly recommend that you document your cancellation with an e-mail or fax and ask for a confirmation from them in writing that they have recorded your cancellation)

#8 - Scheduled Appointment Times = 2 (Appointment Times are scheduled and held very strictly - Make sure that you can keep to the EXACT time of your scheduled drop off and pick up times - this is held to a 5 minute window & if you are 30 minutes late for drop off or pick up there is a fee of $25.00 which will be charged. Very little flexibility in this area - per their web site, they are on "tight" schedule.

#9 - Dropping Off Your Dog = 2 (Dogs are taken directly to their areas immediately - not allowed to get them settled in their area or time to really say good bye)

#10 - Picking Up Your Dog = 2 (Dogs seemed to be removed from their kennel areas and they are staged in the front areas awaiting the arrival of the dog owners to pick them up.)

My Mina came to me in April of last year as a rescue pup. As a first time dog owner I wasn't sure of where to take her for daycare and boarding that would be safe, friendly, structured, and supervised. I was referred to OTPR and was really impressed with the facility. It is clean, with a structured schedule, and the staff were VERY friendly. They brought Mina in for an observation on the first day which I found to be good so that they would know exactly how she behaves with other dogs. I was also able to walk around the property with the owner and look in on the kennel area. I had a full view of the beds and the runs (I wasn't allowed to go in but I could see through a window). I found everything to be very clean and well maintained. What has impressed me most about OTPR is that my Mina LOVES IT!! She rarely reacts to people or places like she does to OTPR! I CANNOT keep her in the car long enough to put it in park when I drop her off, lol! She is clawing and scratching to get out and go play with her doggie friends. EVERY TIME! I take her 1-2x per week for daycare and boarding as needed (she has stayed for as long as 7 days before). She always comes home happy, tired, and in good health. Ottertail Pet Resort is the only place I will ever board my dogs!! they are the absolute best around!! I highly recommend! Karen and her staff at OTPR are the most professional, clean, safe, & friendly facility I have ever experienced. My dogs love going to Ottertail Pet Resort and this has become their home away from home. ❤️🐾🏡 I know my furbabies are in the absolute best care and I have total peace of mind while I’m away. Karen sends me updates and photos of my babies during their time at her facility. The dogs are socialized, they play hard, they enjoy every minute of their stay and I can’t say enough about these wonderful folks! They treat all the animals like they are their own.
