I'm one of those people who doesn't like to break routine, but I saw Jen's Attic while getting gas across the street and it looked like they had some nice outdoor furniture, so thought I'd check it out. Since it was right around opening time, a gentleman was standing on the entrance steps and had let a few people in before me. I approached and he kindly opened the door, but given that he was in front of the door as I walked up, I couldn't see any signage that may have been there. I went into the building and it seemed to be packed full of all kinds of goodies - new and old. Everything from antiques to new power tools.
I thought I was going to have a great time exploring all of the odds and ends in this shop, but apparently the store owners do not trust their customers because while I was browsing the power tools the woman at the counter rudely yelled at me, "Didn't you see the sign on the door about no purses???"
A) She was close enough to me that she didn't need to yell - I was literally standing 5 feet from her. B) My purse is small enough to only accommodate a wallet. It's so small, I can't even fit my keys or phone, so it isn't like I could shoplift power tools in it. C) I'm all for supporting small businesses, but when you treat everyone who comes into your store like a criminal, it doesn't give that warm and fuzzy vibe that other small local retailers do.
I told her that I hadn't seen the sign and walked out. I will not be returning there. The rudeness ruined my morning and reinforced the fact that I should have just went to the big box retailer like I had planned on doing originally.
I think the store had plenty of great stuff in there and a nice variety, but when I'm yelled at like a common criminal when the woman at the counter could clearly see that I was not doing anything untoward, it just leaves a really negative impression...

The first thing I heard was “you saw the sign on the door….no purses put it in the locker.” “You’ve only got 15 minutes.” My husband immediately walked out and took my purse with him. At what point did either of look or behave like a thief. One…didn’t see a sign. Two have no intention of putting any of my belongings in some random locker. My grandson and I walked around a minute, while being followed by what I assume was the owner. We just went ahead and left. Building full of stuff, but will never set foot in there again. I would recommend taking a class on how to treat patrons that were trying to spend money in your...
Read moreI didn't even make it inside the store. The lady sitting out front smoking didn't bother to greet me...just straight up yelled (did nto say it in a polite way at all) "no purses allowed. You can leave it in your car or we have lockers." I stopped for 1 thing that I saw on facebook just to turn around and immediately leave. If you don't trust your patrons, what makes you think I feel safe leaving my belongings in the car or with you? I have plenty of money to spend, I am not a thief. Won't return again even though I really wanted 1 item. There are certainly better ways to say things to people but coming off so rude without a greeting really...
