I've had a few bad experiences with this shelter! My first was a while ago. There was a white boxer/mix puppy that I fell in love with, in fact, I cried leaving her there that day (I had some stuff I had to get done that day so I was going to come back the next morning and get her), when I called a little later bc I had a question about her, they told me she was going to be put down, said she was food aggressive! She was a BABY and looked like she'd been starved for who knows how long, of course she's going to get mad if you take her food! She was very much trainable, she was only a couple months old! The latest ROUND of issues has been dealing with their 'lottery' system, I had gone in several times, each time I was first in line! But I always left without the pet bc of their stupid lottery! The last time, I was there, again first in line, for a specific dog. I told the lady who eventually came out (once the line started growing) that I was there for that particular dog and after she was done taking all the names, she told me I was the only one there for her. When the doors opened I was told to go stand by her cage and wait for someone to get her. I stood there about 15 mins until I finally decided to track down that same worker, she told me she would send someone to get her out so I could spend time with her in one of their rooms. As I waited, another worker got her out and took her to a room so I walked up and asked if she was waiting for me and she said, 'no, someone's already with her', I asked WHY someone else was able to request to even SEE her when I had been standing there waiting the ENTIRE time! She said 'she was here as soon as we opened', I told her that I was there 45 mins BEFORE they opened, that I was the first one there and I was waiting, like I WAS TOLD. She said, and I quote "well you didn't tell ME!" and I almost lost it! I tracked down the other lady and she kept apologizing to me, I said I just wanted the puppy that I was TOLD was MINE, but that other worker was not budging. Eventually she went in and talked to the family and came back out and said 'well they have a kid in a wheelchair and they're not willing to let the puppy go' so I had to tell them how to do their job! I said, 'well since everyone else gets to do this 'lottery', at least give me that much!' so they put both our names in the hat, the worker that had been fighting me drew the other family's name... go figure! I sat in the parking lot and cried for 30 mins before I could drive bc I was so hurt and angry! I was first, I was told no one else was there for her and that SHE WAS MINE! But bc I didn't tell the 'right' person, I left without the dog I had been waiting all weekend to be able to bring home! I KNEW to expect the lottery when I got there, but when I was told that she was mine and I had nothing to worry about, it broke my heart to leave without her! This place, or should I say, the workers at this place are awful! No, they aren't all bad, but when they don't communicate with each other, and things like this are allowed to happen, especially having this worker with a nasty attitude thinking she runs the place, it leaves a very bad impression that's hard...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHORRIBLE STAFF. My husband was just harrassed and threaten to get cops called him him because he tried to leave a dutch shepard puppy that we found by the lake. We took him in and posted on every social media and asked aroudn to find his owner and we had no luck. Taking him to the shelter was THE LAST RESORT. we have 2 dogs of our own and sadly couldnt keep a 3rd dog since we are renting. They didnt want to accept the puppy for whatever reason and even told my husband "you shouldve left them where you found him" which hello? why would anyone do that. they caused my husband to have a panic attack and there was even 2 bystanders DEFENDING my husband from the poor treatment of the staff. My husband was eventually done with them and was going to leave with the dog since they didnt want to accept him in the shelter and they didnt even let him do that! They were just being rude for absolutely any reason and even went as far as standing behind our vehicle to not let him leave but yet the staff didnt want to accept the puppy either so i dont know what the issue was? in the end they eventually took him in and left my husband in tears. HORRIBLE STAFF HERE. we thought we were doing the right thing instead of dumping the puppy elsewhere or giving him to the wrong hands! Never again will i ever go through denton animal shelter. im going to take this to the city and make this a big deal, this is not how you treat people at all. They wanted us to take him to hickory creek animal shelter but hickory creek told me denton. My husband gets really bad anxiety and panic attacks and this just caused him to have a horrible one. He left in tears. THANK YOU to the people who defended him from the STAFF here. such a horrible staff we have for the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreJust to say. Worst ever to call for help for a dog In Distress. They are worthless.Posters all over say be the voice for the animal. They donāt care. To make a year and a half long story short I watch a dog every day that is neglected never a friendly hello or never any attention whatsoever runs out of water feed very randomly. lives in a 4 x 8 pen. It has a roof, but leaks has a doghouse that they burnt a hole in it with a hot lamp. The pen is full of poop. Heās got fleas. The dog whines and cries heās hungry or no water so I go give him food and water and Iāve called into Denton County Animal Control probably 10 times this year and they come out and say Dogs fine. And I tell them thatās because I make sure he has water and food not always but at least twice a week. And they said thatās the problem. Iām the problem that I shouldnāt feed or water him because they canāt get the true state that the dog would be in, but they donāt sit over here and listen to it cry when itās so hungry or itās water in the 5 gallon bucket is 2 inches deep in the bottom. So I guess Iām to let the dog die. them discard and then tell them oh we found it a good home. Denton County Animal Control is a joke . Who can be a voice for an animal when you call for hep and then they come out and do nothing. Heās fine. Heās fine. Heās fine.š”Iāve seen 5 dogs from the time they have moved in to the rent house. This one is the 6th Two White Pyrenees a little puppy a little pit I think . A older pit a golden retriever. And none has survived. I have video and pictures of this dog now with no water or food and in mud and poop filled pin.to sad they let people get away with this . ...
