Beaverdale Confections — Local services in Des Moines

We were nearby getting my fiance's suit for our wedding, and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to stop in to a local treat-ery! I was pretty impressed with their variety of goods. They had a lot of brand name treats, as well as an assortment of older confections that I hadn't seen in a long time, or ever! The biggest pull for me was obviously their homemade goodies, and they had quite a variety. They had some novelty chocolates, like ones in the shape of Iowa and pigs, and they had cute kits like a make your own smores box. They also had a variety of popcorns and snack mixes that are made locally as well! Their display case was what caught our eye though. They had SO MANY different truffles and homemade marshmallow treats to go through, it was hard to decide! We ended up getting a box of 3 treats. The treats are definitely large enough to leave your sweet tooth satisfied!

Dark Chocolate Truffle: Holy moly. I LOVE dark chocolate truffles and this one was one for the record books. The filling was rich and velvety. Definitely try this one!

Dark Chocolate Caramel: This was my favorite by far. Thick caramel can be hard to master, and theirs was amazing. The chocolate was thick enough that you tasted it in every bite, but not too thick as to make it hard to bite into. The caramel was rich, thick, and chewy, without being clawingly sweet. My favorite of the three!

Peanut Butter Truffle: I was a little disappointed with this one. The inside was only slightly peanut butter flavored, and the texture was kind of gelatinous. I was expecting more real peanut butter instead of a peanut butter...

I have shopped here for years, buying truffles for my wife and daughter for every major holiday and any other reason I could justify it. I hate to leave this review as I am sure the ownership made changes based on the circumstances surrounding the economy and the cost to operate the business. That said, the new “product line” is nothing compared to the old. I regret to say it but the store lost my business when they made the change. I wish they would’ve considered raising the prices of their already fabulous products instead of making such drastic changes to their product line. They aren’t even remotely close to the same as they were. RIP the best...

I can’t say enough about how great the service and quality at Beaverdale Confections is! I ordered the Beaver Crunch for a friend for Christmas (so so good!) I forgot to pick up my order before the store was closing for the holidays. The owner sent me a personal text message offering to meet me at the store on Christmas Eve morning so I could get my order in time for the holidays - even though they were not open that day. They truly went above and beyond and it meant so much to me. They also put some extra handmade old fashioned toffee with my order. Just wow! I encourage everyone to shop here.
