Collectamania — Local services in Des Moines

My husband and his brother went to collectamania this past weekend under some very stressful situatuation. We live in Milwaukee wisconsin and are caring for his elderly mother. His nephew who is slightly mentally challenged has been staying and caring for the house. It came to our attention that someone had been taking my husbands father (deceased) very collectable planes and other items and selling them to collectamania. Police documents and the proof that these items were stolen was brought to their attention. Now we know there may be some things that could not be recovered and we may have to buy back some. That was not the issue it more on how they were treated us as soon as they found out what had happened. They first tried to lie about it how long it was that they bought the stolen merchandise, they claimed it was a year ago when in truth is was just a couple weeks ago and we had my husbands nephew in the car , and the items they bought over a year ago were sitting proudly displayed right in the front of the store. If they bought them over a year ago they wouldn't be sitting up in the front. You put items that are new to your stock because you want them to sell right away. Now you take Half Price Books they did everything in their power to help they pulled all books off the shelf they had purchased from the nephew and his friend. I was a bit surprised at how big the store actually was and also surprised at how much stuff they actually fit in there. On top of that, most of it is actually organized. When you're dealing with a flea market-type set up, most of which is unsupervised except for a few video cameras, you don't know what to expect. My overall review is, I thought it was okay. I found a couple of things in the store for myself, which was a plus. If you decide you don't want something after picking it up, they actually don't want you to put it back. Just bring it back up to the counter and tell them you changed your mind. Reason being, every little booth in this little flea market is owner operated by someone and they want to make sure it gets back to the correct Booth because some items can be found in multiple booths. Love the stuff in the store, however most of the staff is terribly rude, and the building is extremely run down. In the Womens restroom, NONE of the stall doors could be latched and one of the toilets has been out of order for months. On more than one occasion the "alarm" has gone off upon exiting AND entering. The staff makes you feel like a criminal when you've done nothing wrong and even call the cops after they harass you, claiming you're a thief. The officers that responded, handled the situation in a wonderful manner and even asked the store to have their "alarm" system serviced.
