Subject: Safety Hazard Due to Improper Installation – LiftMaster Reverse Setting Failure

A few years ago, this company installed a garage door with a LiftMaster opener at my property. At the time, everything seemed to function properly. However, just recently, the door came down on a small chair and completely destroyed it—without reversing or stopping as the LiftMaster safety settings are designed to do.

I called your company to ask about a repair, and not only was I quoted more than the original installation cost, but the person I spoke with was very unprofessional on the phone—short, dismissive, and unwilling to acknowledge my concerns.

For a second opinion, I brought in another technician who immediately spotted a serious issue: the springs and tension system were misaligned from the original installation, directly impacting the LiftMaster’s reverse safety function.

Because of this setup, the door required far too much force to close—essentially disabling the auto-reverse feature, a critical safety measure. I was told the door was operating under dangerously high tension and that I was incredibly lucky it didn’t come down on a child or pet.

This isn’t normal wear and tear—it’s a serious safety hazard caused by improper installation and failure to properly calibrate the opener.

I needed to re-key a very expensive kwikset lock that was bought at Home Depot. When I went to home Depot to re-key the lock, the person in the lock department said that they did not have the special tool needed to do it. I contacted Detroit Door Services, and I was told that they could do it. I met their technician, and not only did he have the special tool, but he had my lock re-keyed for me in less than 5 minutes.
