Beacon Seafood — Local services in Duck

Beacon Seafood has become an absolute MUST for my family when coming for vacation. We have tried many seafood places to get steamed crabs, even buying the crabs to steam ourselves, but none compare to Beacon. Steve the owner steams crabs Maryland style, and if you have ever had Maryland crabs… you know the quality then. Beacon is located right along the road, so it’s an easy place to find.

My recommendation is to call ahead, and ask what seafood is in and the price. Prices fluctuate partly due to how well/not well the fishing/crabbing season has been, so be mindful that prices do change. Calling ahead helps to gauge the prices and see what’s available without being surprised or disappointed if something is not available. Steve has always been well priced and fair with us. If you have questions, he is more than happy to answer them, such as how to prepare something or recommendations.

Steve does have a little store inside of seasonings, sauces/marinades, and some beach decor. The store is very clean. Steve and his staff are friendly, fair, and very helpful and kind.

My family loves it so much that we get a bushel of steamed crabs for our week at the beach, and then as we leave to go home, we call ahead and he has crabs steamed for us to take home.

We preordered snow crab legs and shrimp on Wednesday for pickup by 3 on Saturday. They were extremely helpful with determining the right amount of food for the number of people we were having. They allowed prepayment. Arrived slightly early to pick up on Saturday. They weren’t quite ready but they were being prepared. The gentleman was extremely nice and said he would let me know when they were ready. Which he did. He bagged everything up nice and tight so I wouldn’t have any spillage in my vehicle. The smell was simply amazing. Got them back and everyone loved the flavor and it was almost exact on the amount. I will definitely use them again and highly recommend. If I could give 10 stars I would. From start to feast they were extremely helpful and convenient. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Pricing was below actual market value. We were staying in Corolla for a family reunion and based on the reviews, decided this place would have good crabs. We ordered a bushel ($300 for #1's) and 10lbs of shrimp ($15.99lb steamed). Upon picking the order up, the owner stated he wasn't proud of the crabs but they were good crabs. My husband and I didn't really know how to take that. We assumed maybe they would offer a lower price since they weren't "proud" of them. That didn't happen. The owners were very nice and friendly and helped bag the order up a little better for us. We hoped for the best and were under the assumption that the crabs would still be good crabs as stated, just smaller? Unfortunately, we realized most of the crabs were Very light and small. There was some good big ones in there but overall we were disappointed. My family and I are from MD and know good crabs. The shrimp however, were huge and delicious!
