Great local comic shop with a truly huge selection. My step-father often went here for Punisher and other comics. I recently went myself to check out their manga section.
The stock is definitely oriented towards western media. The anime I found was relegated to a box set of Gundam Seed Destiny missing all but one disc and a couple others I didn't recognize.
Their newer manga is up front near the rest of their new stock, but it's very small. Just a few miscelanious books and collectables. In the back, among the sea of other comics, is their old stock. Mostly duplicates of Ranma ½ and Mai the Psychic Girl, this unsorted mass of manga was difficult to dig through. But that didn't deter me. After digging for a while, I found many great well preserved issues. Particularly, I was excited to find 2001 Nights and Baoh. Sorry not sorry to anyone looking, because I picked them up. There's also some Macross, Gundam, magazine sets, and more if you're willing to find it.
There's a big section of tabletop cards, it looked like mostly MtG, by the window. I don't play personally, but it definitely seems worth a look if that's your jam. Next to those cards is a big set of tables, so perhaps it would be a good venue to play too.
The vibe inside was nice, as were the staff. The shop wasn't very busy at around 3pm on a Thursday. I saw a handful of people come and go while I was there, all of whom quietly and politely went about their own perusing.
There is a quaint park in the neighboring lot. Unfortunately, neither have a bike rack near the street side. I locked my bike to the lamp post near the door with no problems. There is coin-pay parking on the street, if you arrive by car.
I hope the staff sort the manga eventually, but judging by the one box labeled "New 9-17-18" I doubt it will happen any time soon. There are some gems in there, but they are burried among 3 tiers of unsorted boxes. That or just let me come in and I will go buck wild...
Read moreI totally agree with everyone talking about the quantity/inventory. This place is super stocked and the basement was organized & awesome during the sale last time I was at it.
However, the atmosphere isn’t great… The building kinda seems to be crumbling and the floors are all crusty with broken tiles everywhere. I understand that this is a comic shop & people aren’t here to look at floors, but it’s a bit offputting that the place isn’t taken care of well. I’m not sure if I’ll be returning out of fear for asbestos poisoning… LOL!
The walls are covered in cool $5.99 posters, but they’re all super creased and taped to the wall. If you buy one they have to cut it off the wall for you and you’re stuck with the tape on the corners. Kinda hard to want to spend cash on something that appears damaged, you know? Also, the posters in the windows are cool and I know why they’re there but it gives the place a bit of a shady look.
The staff was great though. I could hear laughing from the Employees Only area and bits and pieces of conversation that gave the place life, along with 80s/90s rock on the radio. The kid at the register was awkward to talk to, but helpful anyway.
Felt very much like the classic comic shop experience, but a bit dirtier. If you can handle...
Read moreI tried to sell my comics here a while ago and they offered me $80. And I had many books worth at least $20 that would have been sold within a week and a few books worth more than $80 individually. I had almost all of the McFarland amazing spider man, a full run of the watchmen, a first print killing joke, a graded 9.8 death of super girl, Spider-Man 252, first carnage, first cletus kasady, dark knight returns first print, the first few spawn issues, the McFarland hulk and Batman, web of Spider-Man #1. A ton of easy to sell valuable comics and was offered $80. I will never buy anything from them again. Definitely never sell them anything because they will rip you off so bad. Just sell what’s worth a good bit on eBay and sell the rest in a lot and make much much more....
