Brought my truck here for a engine light with dpf showing low voltage and i got a high ash warning on monday july 15th. I told them i had a short in the line and about the ash. Was told after 1 day that my filters needed cleaned and I had a short. Estimated cost was $1500 to replace the line and get my filters cleaned by Friday the 19th. Friday I didn't hear anything, Saturday I called twice in the morning but no answer. Monday the 22nd in the afternoon I was contacted it was done. I picked it up and my bill was over 2900. Was told the price doubled bc it took them longer to find my short than expected. I drove 80miles to grab a load w/o issue, drove 50 more miles back towards eloy when my check engine light came on again. It was a different code for dpf. Had to shut down and call when they opened up Tuesday, in which I was told to bring it in. Wednesday I was called and told my dpf filters were bad and I need to replace them. Was told if I wanted them to change same day, it'd be $3200 but I'd get a deal by only being charged for 2hrs of labor. Wth!? Was told bc the filter had a small amount of soot on the heat shield, it was bad. I had them call the shop that did the cleaning to try and find out why I just paid to get bad filters cleaned. The guy on the phoned stated that the filters were good and completely normal. Midway then told me the other guy was either wrong or just lieing and they aren't responsible for me getting a bad part bc they assume it's good and don't inspect the part before installing. Was then told that they also can't confirm what might have happened to my filters in the few hours before my check engine light came on again. I then called another dpf specialist who also stated the filters were normal and be weary of shops who just want to charge for new and unnecessary filters. Both shops denied any responsibility and no warranty on work. Enough, I asked them to put it back together. When I picked up my truck, they wrote an invoice with a $0 charge. I signed to get out of there as I already had a specialist waiting for my truck. I later read the invoice where they claimed my filters were bad which they told me they thought that; also they wrote up about soot coming from my stacks, and how they broke my doc mounting bolt and recommended that I go buy 1 from the dealer (niether was I told about). The final kicker was on the invoice, it states that if I get work done elsewhere, they won't honor my warranty for their work. Lol. Was already told they wouldn't warranty bc "things just happen sometimes, and they don't know what damaged my filters within the few hours that I drove it after I left their shop." They got me in quick but took a week, double the estimate, and left with a new problem and broken bolts that I now have to get fixed elsewhere. Update: Found out, when they removed my def filters, they broke my return and feed def lines, glued them on, mentioned nothing, and to top it off, they crossed them. So now I have to replace both hard to get lines and put a new doser in. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOP, unless it's a...
Read moreSteve is an awesome person and runs a great shop, Midway Diesel in Eloy Az.. I called on Friday when we had issues with an air pressure leak around the turbos. He told me to come in on Monday at 9:00am to look at the truck.
I did a lot of research over the weekend about the turbos, wastegate that was added, and possible items it could be. I narrowed it down to the wastegate that was added and the plumbing for that. Could not find anything.
Monday I showed up at Midway Diesel and was told by Alex that I am scheduled for Wednesday. I told him I talked with Steve on Friday and he said bring it by on Monday at 9:00am. He walked into Steve’s office and asked if I could wait a few minutes for him to finish what he was doing? I waited a few minutes and chatted with Alex. Steve came out and we walked to the truck to look at it.
I opened the hood and showed him what we connected and had to tighten and what I researched what it could be. I told him I like to research problems to learn. He laughed and told me to start the truck. I told him it needs to be above idle to hear it.
I was pushing the pedal so the leak could be heard and he looked for maybe 2 minutes and said “I found it”. He said turn it off but he still can not get to it till Wednesday as he is booked and he was as I had to park way off to the side as he had 4 big Semi’s in front of the bays. Then he said it looks like the fitting needs to be threaded back into the body, but you have to remove some hoses and couplers to get to it.
I told him to hold my spot and I will give it a shot.
Took it back to the Silverado and waited for the engine to cool off. Took off a few hoses and the intercooler hose to get access. It was tricky getting the 45 degree fitting threaded into the intercooler body.
Then put all the other pipes and connections back for the wastegate regulator. Decided it was a “beer break”. Then I installed the hoses and couplers that I had to remove, put all the tools away to make sure none were left in the engine compartment.
Called Midway and talked with Steve and let him know I was able to fix it. Asked if I could buy the shop a flat of beer? He said “no, because he wanted his boys to show up to work tomorrow”. I told him, when we get ready to head back to Canada, I will have them do a oil change and service and thanked him again for his awesome help...
Read moreJob done right the first time! Mechanics are all working hard yet are friendly and will take a few min to talk to you.
I've been having an electric problem for a year and half. We've been to several shops including dealer, no one could figure it out.
Truck had 7 faults. Dash looked like a Christmas tree with all light on and some flashing. C.J worked on our truck for about 3 hrs, during the AZ heat. He was detailed and focused. He went from one computer to another. He figured out my issue in no time. We would've been done same day except part had to be ordered.
C.J worth ethics are old school. For lack of better words, he tackles each issue as if it his own. In my opinion he is the one mechanic we all need over the road. C.J is worth every penny spent for the repair.
Midway Diesel has an experienced team !!!
Two days I was there, I saw them tackle transmission, DEF, motor, welding a frame, differential, electrical, trailer chassis and more. All were done by the time I left.
