Very rarely do I leave a negative comment, and circumstances not entirely under the control of TA dont necessarily warrant criticism, with the exception of this one.
Some of us cook in our trucks 90% of the time and are selective when choosing to invest and trust in establishments to effectively quell that troll residing deeply within the recesses of that abdominal black hole we call our stomach.
Enter 'Sbarro'.
It is not often my journeys bring me along I-10, but this is the place to stop when I do.
The last visit was last year, and I departed a happy customer.
This year I would leave with nothing because I was refused seevice.
When I approached the counter, it was well after normal lunch hours, and the food display under the warming lights all appeared to have lost the contest for who could survive the longest and still look edible.
No problem, because I have solutions.
I will spend more money and order a whole pie.
Enter Sbarro employee...she, about 5'3" with a tanned complexion, was working dough, looked at me, and seemed annoyed. I managed an Italian restaurant for years, so she had a little bit of sympathy from me.
But then she looked away and continued, so I stepped back from the counter and politely waited.
After a few minutes I stepped forward again (no one was in line) and another annoyed glance shot my way.
"Do you want to ..... .........?" I really strained to hear her because she was calling to me from the back, so I responded with, "Excuse me ma'am?"
She repeated louder, and I affirmed her assumption.
She did not seem happy.
She finished forming the pizza dough and played it out on the screen, then met me at the counter.
"What do you want to order?"
My thoughts: "Training...my gosh does she need training. And this looks very bad on the leadership at this Sbarro. Everything in her manner, body language and tone of voice placed me on that list of people who faded away to dust after Thanos snapped his fingers.
"May I just order a whole pie?"
"You can't order a whole pie. You have to choose from what is on the counter."
"Wait...i am sorry. Did you say i cannot order from what is displayed up there on the menu? I cannot order a whole pie?"
"No...right now we are not making whole pizzas. You have to order from what is here on the counter."
Stunned...perplexed. I have never received such a response in my whole life.
So I did what any reasonable, hungry truck driver who just worked out and was really needing some carbs and protein would do. I looked over the counter at the offering there, observed that some of food had not begun moving on their own just yet, and politely stated,
"I appreciate it, ma'am, but no thank you. Have a good day."
My route will now begin taking me this way frequently, but this stop will not be included any longer until something positive changes.
This is NOT the time to turn away a paying customer, especially when the customer was going to spend twice as much as what was offered on that museum of antiques.
That young lady needs training and management is to blame for the state of affairs here. The other comments/reviews speak for themselves.
Businesses need...business.
But you will not have mine.
Shower was ok, but cleaning looked rushed and I wont go into detail because I am eating lunch. It might have been Sbarro's pizza, but I saved that $30 and instead am having a nice serving of salmon from...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI often stop here when im travelling back to Phx, AZ and the food is somewhat better than all the other fried foods. So here I get the salads or steamed veggies but I feel this place can use a little more help with workers. Only two gals are here. One works as the server and cashier and one in back making the pizzas. It would be great if you could have more food available and do something to keep it looking fresh, not so dry. There are only 3-4 spinach stromboli available that don't look as dry as the others so people go for that one 1st. By the time one gets to the front of the line the spinach stromboli are gone because it's the only one that looks appealing since the other ones n pizza are dry. Since the charter buses have a stop here, Sborro should be prepared to have more food available. The spaghettiis dry & crunchy, the food is practically gone by the time everybody gets to the front of the line and they tell us that they will make more strombolis later but in the meantime, the long line of people from the chartered buses are waiting and the drivers have a schedule to keep, therefore they cannot wait for a long time to have the people aboard the buses. In summary, more help is needed as well as...

Needs new management/owners! Employees are absolutely disrespectful and any kind of interaction leaves the customer feeling like an inconvenience. So sorry that I had to pull you away from your phone and your hiding place behind the wall next to the register to do the job at the place you chose to work at. THIS HAS BEEN THE CASE EVERY VISIT not just a one off or once in a while which I could probably deal with and not even bother writing a review. Then theres the food, the product itself, tastes as though it's been sitting out all day long and nothing seems even remotely fresh. Your better off spending your money at the A&W or the Taco bell at this place but even those are not so great and I assume are the same owners as the pizza place I just gave kind words of praise. So all in all just dont go to the T/A to eat, I know my family and I will no longer be spending our money there. I don't review often and they're never this long but this place has stuck a nerve. Thanks...
