We had an incredible experience working with Jen at MKD for our kitchen renovation. From start to finish, she listened closely to everything we wanted and worked tirelessly to accommodate our budget, even as we were a bit indecisive along the way. She was patient, thorough, and incredibly detail-oriented.
Jen went above and beyond, visiting our site twice before starting the two designs, once before ordering cabinets, once before construction, and multiple times during the process. She also made thoughtful suggestions for the contractor, David of Build on Solid Rock, whose work was meticulous and efficient. They also took care of preserving original built ins so we can utilize in a different area. His team was punctual and even finished ahead of schedule—truly phenomenal!
Jen thought of absolutely everything, including details we didn’t even know we wanted, ensuring the end result was functional and beautiful. Our 1903 farmhouse presented unique challenges, including an oddly shaped kitchen, 5 doors to different areas, different ceiling heights, and unexpected discoveries during construction (like a section of the kitchen being a former outdoor porch). Jen navigated all of this expertly, and the result is stunning—a space that’s perfect for hosting our guests, entertaining clients for tasting events, and serving as a test kitchen for our catering company.
There are a few minor things we might have done differently in hindsight, such as the hood vent. When we removed walls and ceilings during construction, we discovered we could have vented outside instead of using a recirculating vent, which isn’t ideal for our heavy cooking use. That said, this was something we learned after the cabinets were ordered, and it’s not a reflection on Jen’s work.
Overall, I love my new kitchen—it’s beautiful, functional, and everything I hoped it would be. I would recommend Jen at MKD 100% to anyone looking to design their dream kitchen. Her expertise and dedication made all the difference. I would also highly recommend her contractor, David of Build on Solid Rock, whose team exceeded all expectations.
Thank you, Jen, for creating a space we...
Read moreBuilt new home in 2014. Ordered complete kitchen, including appliances, laundry room cabinets, and 2 bathroom vanities. We upgraded all cabinetry except laundry room. Wasn't pleased with the cabinets. Doors seem very thin, and drawer glides broke after less than a year. They are supposedly 'Amish built. In 2017, the finish started peeling off of the bathroom vanity and the cherry kitchen cabinets, above the toaster.,the finish melted off. Between an illness and death in the family, they didn't come out until January, 2019. No response, they came out again in late 2020. Basically told me that it's up to me to get it fixed. The Battle Creek manager, Jeff was kind of snippy, threw his hands up and told me that it was up to me to get it fixed. I will never deal...
Read moreI don’t write reviews unless I have exceptional service or very poor service. The communication throughout our kitchen remodel was not good. Designer suggested using Kitchen Aid but did not tell us those appliances were not even in production at the time. The kitchen shop was unwilling to keep us informed or give updates. We ended up canceling all appliances and ordering what we could find off the floor of Lowe’s or Menards. There were issues with one of our cabinets being cut wrong (not that big of a deal mistakes happen) but then the internal shelving was not installed. The countertops were measured incorrectly and was not caught till after installation. All the issues wouldn’t have been a big deal if the communication was more frequent and we felt like we weren’t...
