I was referred to this place by someone who doesn't normally get their nails done. However, I needed something quickly, so I took her advice and went. I called to make my appointment and the first thing the owner did "Monica" was tell me that rather than do an acrylic fill she wants to work with me so that I don't need to do that anymore. I was turned off by that because she didn't know anything about me at the time and I just felt that was too forward. All I wanted was a fill and nail repair. It was like pulling teeth trying to get her to tell me her rates, but finally she did, and I made an appointment for later that day.
When I got there, she sat me down and was very nice. She was looking at my nails shaking her head as if in disgust. She told me that I would need to replace one nail (which was fine because I knew that anyway) and ended up doing something totally different than what I asked for. I wanted an acrylic fill, but she gave me gel telling me that I needed something stronger. Mid-fill I stopped her and asked her why not acrylic...she tried to talk fast about why she wasn't using the acrylic, but I slowed her down so that I could understand why she decided to do something different. She said that the difference in price btwn gel and acrylic wasn't any different, but I knew that wasn't true bc acrylic is usually cheaper. But I let her go.
Once she started working on my nails, she started talking about how she's healing people with her nail therapy. I am all for people helping people...I have nothing against it, but she was just very pushy. She pulled out her google reviews and had me read them, showed me pictures and even played a testimonial from a baseball player (Willie Randolph) I think. She told me that she was so upset to see that I didn't have a half moon on my nails. She was very rough with my hands. I had to pull away and tell her she was being too rough. She was very pushy...too much too soon. All I needed was to get my nails done and go back to work.
Pros: She and her team came together and got me out of there in an hour. I feel she is a very kind person and genuinely wants to help people.
Cons: She's very pushy and was just giving me way too much information than I needed for a quick visit to the nail salon. They did a terrible job on my nails. They're way too thin, the paint job is bad, and the shape is bad. I only like the color.
I probably won't ever go back there. Although they were kind, I was turned off by the owner and their service. I did tip only because they tried their best to do what I needed done and got me out on time, not because I was 100% satisfied with the service.
On Saturday 1/19, the left thumb nail started to lift. Again, the owner claimed to have given me a gel filling because it was stronger and the best for me. If that were the case, my nails would not have started to lift just after 3 days. The nail polish started to peel that day as well. Here we are one week later, and the left thumb nail has come off. The 2 pointer finger nails are going to be next. At this point, Iām just going to let them all come off and go to my regular manicurist for a whole new set.
One thing that Monica did say to me, which I did not include in my first review was āIām more concerned about the health of the nail rather than making them look niceā. I do not agree with that philosophy because, just like our bodies, we can take care of ourselves and be healthy while still looking good š Our hairā¦same thingā¦we can take care of our hair properly and still have it look nice from day to day. The same goes for our nails. So, ladies, if youāre looking for a place to go for a good fill, manicure, etcā¦this is not it.
I donāt know anything about her practiceā¦sounds interesting and maybe one day Iāll research it. But in the meantime, this salon has left such a bad taste in my mouth. I really wish that I could request a refund for the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThere are people in this world with a genuine passion for helping others. This is aptly descriptive of Monica. Monica is not a doctor, nor does she practice medicine, however after my first reflexology session where she worked on my feet, there were undeniable health-related changes. I suffered from ingrown toenails and one toenail I injured 30+ year ago that bent over and grew like a bent letter "L" instead of straight across. Monica fixed in ONE SESSION what doctors botched during numerous podiatry visits.
I have suffered from obesity for most of my post-football adult life. When I try to exercise or do any strenuous activity involving staying on my feet for any prolonged period of time, my feet would swell overnight and hurt for the next day or more. Two days after my first session with Monica I was going for daily walks of upwards of 2 hours. To make sure it was no fluke, I continued to walk daily, sometimes two or three walks in a day. No swelling! This morning's 4 mile walk included going up and down mountains. I am no longer afraid to work out and get hurt. I am once again able to work in my back yard from early morning until evening without any negative repercussions or swelling. Thank you Lord for Monica.
Neighbors half my age are asking me if I'm on my second or third walk when they see me during their own walks. I get a plethora of supportive waves from motorist as I march down and then back up the mountain roads leading into and throughout our neighborhood. I'm 59 and have lost 10 pounds in my first week after seeing Monica. After three treatments, I've noticed improvement in memory, additionally, I wake up feeling well rested. In short, what Monica has been able to do for me is amazing. I wholeheartedly recommend Monica and Sylvan Nails.
