First lets address the elephant in the room. It IS a mess and the service is not always following you around the store answering all your questions.(though I've never had to wait all that long if I really need something.) HOWEVER...
This place is NOT for the picky collector who is looking. If your a neat freak who is there to discuss the finer points of comic book bindings then your in the wrong spot. If your a picker who wants to dig around for something awesome... welcome to the promised land. I love looking through there just to see the things they have. I mostly go for the cards and comics though the DVD's and Blue rays and games have caught my eye. So yes the place is a dirty mess. In my opinion thats part of it. Appeal 2.
The guys there all have their area of expertise. They can't all answer everything about every type of media thats in there... who on earth could. But they will CALL SOMEONE AT HOME to find out. Who does that? If they are filled to the brim with people. (which happens from time to time) they run from person to person. Service 3
Most Importantly (for me anyway). I have NEVER gone their and not ended up with what I wanted. They always have magic cards in stock. The other places in town always seem to be out of what I want. I have never had any problems with the products they sell. And they are truly honest with you about what your getting unlike some other broker-esqu stores i could...
Read moreI've been dealing with the Book Broker since I was a teen and they were located on Weinbach Ave. This is truly a great place to go for comic books. They've been able to hook me up with back issues I've been searching for on several occasions. I feel most everything I've bought from them hasn't been overpriced or overly marked up.
The employees are where this place really shines. The staff I normally deal with are very knowledgeable of comic book nerd stuff and willing to give you their honest opinions.
The Book Broker also has a couple of tables full of long boxes filled with 1$ comics. There is some great stuff if you take the time to comb through it all.
This place also sells legit comic book t-shirts. I've bought a couple of Sandman shirts for my wife. It's awesome to get proper Tee's local.
I can't comment on their other items such as books, movies or video games as I haven't...
Read moreBeen going here for years. Yes, the building is basically coming down around them. Yes, there is an unavoidable level of sketch to the neighborhood. Yes, there are items that haven't been moved since I started coming in the early 2000s.
If you're wanting a clean-cut comic shop or media store, Book Broker isn't it. In the same way people fetishize dive bars for being authentically sleazy, this is an authentically crunchy establishment. They've got video games and DVD box sets out the wazoo, more paperback books from the 90s than they know what to do with, under each box of DVDs are long-forgotten VHS tapes still waiting to be sold at $.49 apiece.
There's even a huge collection of retro video games, but you have to ask to be taken into the room.
Oh, and they have a generous seven day return policy with DVDs and games, in case you don't like them or they happen to...
