I usually really love this ER and prefer to go to Beaumont then any other hospital but something happened last time I was there and it has really been bothering me.

I'm a 27 year old woman with Fibromyalgia, nerve damage and arthritis, however, I am in the process of getting extensive testing for autoimmune disorders like MS and related, because I've been having uncharacteristic mobility issues, sudden falls, and other symptoms. Because of this, I walk with a cane.

I went to the ER for the second time in a 2 week span. First because I had a kidney infection, which they gave me antibiotics and sent me home. The doctors and staff on that shift were wonderful and attentive.

But when I came home I began getting terrible symptoms of a cough, running nose, low grade fever, sweating, etc. So after waiting it out for awhile and everyone telling me I looked terrible, I went back in because that is what I was instructed to do from the first visit if this happened.

The staff on this shift was like a night and day difference. I don't understand what happened but, they sent me home with steroids and told me it's just asthma exacerbated with smoking when it's definitely bronchitis and I'm still really, really sick. But that's not the issue. The issue is the way a certain staff member spoke to me.

One of them came in, looked at me, and literally said "what's with the cane?" and I explained my disorders. His reaction was basically that people with Fibromyalgia don't need canes. I was extremely exhausted, sick, and frustrated so even though that isn't necessarily true I simply said "I'm simply doing what my doctor told me to do, and they're also still doing testing on me". He kept trailing off about what he said, like "Nah, I've never met anyone who had Fibromyalgia and used a cane......if you're being tested for this or that it makes sense but otherwise nah......" and then just left.

For some people it may be confusing what's wrong with this, but I'm a disabled adult. Legally disabled because of these ailments and others. On top of being sick all the time, I deal with people being obnoxious about my device and doubting my illness. But I never expected a medical professional to not only be uneducated about Fibromyalgia, but to approach a matter of questioning me so clumsily and insensitive. I don't know if maybe he was trying to tell me to look into other disorders, but I immediately said I am going through testing by a team of specialists focusing on autoimmune disorders, and if that was his motivation, he did it in a very absent-minded way. It also had literally nothing to do with why I was there. I could entertain the notion that they were trying to collect medical info, just in case they missed something, but he didn't have a chart, they didn't even take my blood, he didn't ask it in a way that a professional does and I was being discharged.

After this happened I just sat in the exam room and cried because it's so frustrating. I deal with this in restaurants, on sidewalks, pretty much everywhere in public because of my age. And most of the time I can handle that. But for it to happen in a hospital really upset me. Please, it's really important to a lot of people that your staff is properly educated on how to speak to people who are disabled. This person not only does not know a lot about Fibromyalgia, because some people with it DO use mobility devices, but he also does not know how to approach these situations professionally. It isn't appropriate to discredit someone's use of a mobility device, when they're there for something completely unrelated. You are ER staff who has known this person for all of a few minutes, a disabled person's team of specialists that they have been seeing for years are way more qualified to make the call over whether they need a mobility device or not. If you're curious, ask. I would have been happy to talk about it, just don't erase my day to day existence and...

Let me start off by stating if you have any of the following providers...run! Benjamin Glines, DO Jacob Carl Hague, DO Andrew Cykiert, DO Mohammed Moussa Faraj, MD

The absolute and blatant lies that were placed in my chart, as well as stating that I don't have sufficient Healthcare Literacy and Education and that the staff advocated for me, is a slap in the face. To start, I have a college education and BA in Psychology, followed by seven years working in healthcare, with four of them being in the Emergency Department.

I went to the ED for hypertension and bradycardia. I had a severe migraine, which I assumed was from the high BP. I was labeled as someone who has drug seeking behavior even though I've never ever had an issue misusing my pain medication, nor did I ask at any time for any narcotics. I was never given a reason as to why this was placed in my chart after asking more than four providers. I only asked for toradol and benedryl or zofran for my pounding headache/migraine, and they REFUSED to give it to me, My chart stated they gave me toradol but I never received toradol The RN said no to the tordol, and they offered me tylenol 650mg for a migraine. As far as drug seeking behavior I was asking for toradol with zofran or benedryl for a migraine while I was waiting to get botox for migraines which was already scheduled (which every provider is clearly able to see in my MyChart, with my pain management doctor for 3.7.25 after fighting my insurance for 14 months to get it approved with my new insurance. If NSAIDs have become addictive please let me know. I was initially assessed as "depressed." I never stated said I was depressed and my chart has never stated that, but I was also assessed as normal later on, so which is it? Depressed or normal? I have a history of severe anxiety that has been documented since 2012, NOT depression.

I went in because my bp was 180/150 and my HR of 33 x 3 days. As an ED director and administrator for The Johns Hopkins Hospital and a scribe at toledo Hospital, I am beyond offended in regard to the notes stating my lack of healthcare education and literacy.

The exact quote in my chart stated: "Diagnosis / Treatment was significantly limited by: Insufficient Healthcare Literacy and Education - And I attempted to raise awareness, assistance, and advocacy for the patient."

These providers should be ashamed that they used their power to destroy my reputation by putting whatever they pleased in my chart without my consent or knowledge. I will never ever go to corewell for any reason. I understand having having this much power over a patient's chart, but I have never had a provider hold it over my head like the last two visits. I have had the worst experiences at corewell emergency deparment farmington hills.

I will continue to advocate for my health and fight these many lies until they are corrected and the providers responsible are held accountable.

The nursing staff and providers should be ashamed of themselves for placing blatant lies in my chart, knowing that they will be there forever.

My husband was calling regularly and spoke to staff and as a pharmacist, I would say that makes him a credible, educated advocate since the providers didn't seem to think I was enough of an advocate for myself or educated enough.

I urge you to find you're Healthcare needs elsewhere as someone who is very educated on Healthcare Literacy and this happened to me, I can only imagine what is written in the charts of patients who do not ask questions or review their notes...

Corewell Health is about ripping off their patients. The early part of May 2024 I woke up in unspeakable pain. I had red blistering rashes and scars in my scalp and neck area. I was pretty sure I had developed Shingles. I called my doctor's office for an emergent appointment because my regular scheduled appointment was for Mid- June. Dr Martha Pollock saw me & said yes, this looks like Shingles. I told I was going to go to the health department to get the vaccine. She asked me when was my scheduled appointment with her. I said next month in June. She said they could give me the vaccine when I come for regular scheduled office appointment since they do it in the office and it's a 2/dose vaccine given 3/months apart then she gave me a referral to see a dermatologist and I did. However, no mention of a $400 fee or any fee or copay that day or when I came back in June for my regular scheduled appointment in June and my 1st vaccine. To my surprise a couple of weeks later received a billing statement from Corewell Health for $400. I was definitely disappointed that they didn't tell me of this type charge associated with the shingles vaccine I was more disappointed in myself for not asking the question and following my own mind by going to the health department for the vaccine. Okay I will pay it. I sent the 1st payment for $100, 2nd payment for $100 and the statements I received from Corewell Health reflected those payments as the next billing stmt I received showed a balance due of $200. Went back for my regular appointment & my 2nd & last vaccine on 9/26/24 Dr Pollock informs me then she's retiring at & there was something she she have informed me on my last visit my cholesterol was spiked and I should be on medication my diet and exercise wasn't enough I had lost 20 pounds since my visit in June and I found out I should have been on medication since March 2024 when I cholesterol was through the roof. Anyway after my last vaccine on 9/26/24 which was paid & sent directly from my bank on 10/10/24. Corewell has acknowledged receipt of payment for this 2/dose Shingles vaccine. Last week I received another bill from Corewell Health for you guessed it. $401 for the same vaccine. I've called & spoken with numberous CSRs & they all repeated the same language script. They're not hearing me, I went to the dr's office to no avail. I've been told it may be a facility fee, they can't see how the doctor billed, but they will check into it, BCBS has no recourse since they haven't received a billing. One of the Corewell CSRs said they don't bill insurance for a noncovered service. I asked what was the service. The only service I had was the OV which is my regular scheduled 3/month office visit follow up and the the 2nd and last of the 2/dose Shingles vaccine which I have already paid in full $400 to Corewell Health. I won't stop until I get an answer. I will calling all news and Internet media until I know what or why Dr Pollack's office and Corewell Health keeps billing & double billing me for. I am a senior citizen who pays her bills & I have paid them. I can't afford to pay them twice. Paying $400 for this vaccine was already more than enough. To be asked to pay it twice because Corewell does not have the integrity to look at their system changes from Beaumont to Corewell or whatever they need to do to correct their error should not be causing my pressure to get out of control or my credit...
