Do not move here. I highly suggest taking the time to read my full review to save yourself the headache of living here. I'm not sure how long my review will be up, as the staff here have been known to take down any negative reviews. After moving out in January of 2017 myself and my husband had to think long and hard about writing this review, and take some time to review our experience with Morganton Place Apartment Homes as we did not want to write a review out of frustration but out of experience. We first moved in in August of 2014 and rented a 2bd/2ba until we upgraded to a 3bd/2ba in August 2015. Our first apartment experience seemed to be fine up until 2 weeks after we moved into our 3bd apartment. Given this was our first time ever renting we really were inexperienced. We received a bill for well over $150 of move-out fees, I listed various appliances as dirty , blinds as broken/damaged, an electrical outlet missing. Things that just completely had taken us by surprise, since we had left the apartment in almost perfect move-in ready condition. When I asked to see these issues for myself I was taken up to the apartment and it was a mess! They had already started renovating the unit. There was trash left by workers in the sink, and what looked to be a spill in the refrigerator. Paint and dust chips in the middle of the floor along with my wedding photo in a frame that we must had left behind in the closet by mistake, it was covered in paint. I wish they would have called to say that they had found it (but I understand that it was not their place to do so). Unfortunately I had not taken any photos of our move out to prove the condition we had left the apartment in. Our loss, we paid the $150+ fee. After moving into the 3bd apartment everything went downhill. Dog feces surrounded the building, roaches were EVERYWHERE, my vehicle had parts stolen from it in the middle of the night. There was a hurricane in Oct. of 2015 that caused our roof to leak in two separate rooms. It took them 4 months to come out to "fix" it. By then it had BLACK MOLD growing. They just painted over it with spray paint. To make things worse one day when our garbage disposal was not working I had called maintenance and asked them to call me before they come by because we had a dog I'd need to put away. While I was in the shower I heard the door open and my dog begin to bark, thinking it was my husband I got out of the shower in my towel and walked out to find 3 maintenance men by my front door petting my dog. I told them to leave immediately and to come back in a half hour when my husband would be home. At that point I was DONE! I called my husband to come home immediately. He emailed the complex later that night and never heard back from them. We were able to end our lease when my husband received orders a few months later. These are just a few nightmares that occurred during our time renting here. Once again when we moved out in January of 2017 we received another move-out bill for a long list of false claims. This time I hired a maid to do a move out clean and supply me with before and after photos and a receipt. As well as taking my own photos. So I called the complex and explained to them that I had receipts/photos of the apartment and will not be paying for the damages/dirty things listed on the move-out statement. They then did drop some of the fee's off of the statement. Some things they could just not come to an agreement on.
To me it seems that this complex is on it's way down. They are looking for money wherever they can get it. They can never keep a staff member more than a few months. Constantly rotating contractors. A serious roach infestation. The apartments are priced way too high for the outdated appliances, old cheap carpeting, leaking windows and white walls with no molding. Not to mention a staff that is not friendly! I wish I could list everything wrong with this place, but there is simply too much to say. In conclusion, this place taught me what we want in an apartment home and what we do not want....

I have been living in Morganton Place for almost 2 years. The first year I rented a 2 bedroom and the rent was reasonable but there were several issues. My neighbors above me played music so loud and smoked weed to the point that it came through my vents every single day and I constantly had to burn incents and candles, plus I had a 1 year old who had to smell it and no one cared. The rent is stated at one price BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT YOU WILL PAY!! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! You will pay at least $100-$150 more every month because they charge you for everything out the ying-yang and when old management was there the rent always fluctuated. The apartment was always in need of maintenance and no one tells you when they come into your home. I had to install cameras in my home. When i did move out I cleaned the apartment until it was spotless and my mom went behind me and cleaned it again. I had rugs down so the carpet was still in great shape and I am a unimaginably clean person to the point where I clean my walls if I see anything on them and these people still took MY WHOLE DEPOSIT!!!! I was so pissed!!! The manager even told me he saw the apartment and felt it was clean, but couldn't do anything about it. THEY SCAMMED ME! PERIOD!!! TOOK MY ENTIRE DEPOSIT! So just know they are going to take your deposit regardless of how clean your place is when you move out. Say "bye bye" to it. you will never see it again.
I moved into a 3 bedroom because I was told I could just do a clean transfer without paying a deposit so I moved into the 3 bedroom that was remodeled thinking things would be better, BUT NO! Upon moving in my dryer (brand-new) never dried the clothes and still doesn't (running the bill up every time I use it). My neighbors (again) below me smoke weed constantly so I can't ever enjoy my sliding glass door being open in the master because of the smoke. My shower squeals like crazy when I'm taking a shower and all of the door knobs are different colors!! I'm in the upgraded unit and the doorknobs don't even match. Again, I was quoted on price for rent and I pay over $100 more a month than what I was quoted. The parking spots are super small and tight to the point that I can hardly get my daughter into her carseat and I am always always hitting the car next to mine (and my car is new). It is so frustrating trying to get in and out the car and squeeze by the cars, like why aren't the parking spots the right size?????
What pisses me off the most about this apartment area is how much the rent is compared to what you're actually getting for your money. I have looked at apartment areas that are new and modern and they are charging the same amount as this place and THAT PISSES me off!! These people have the audacity to charge this outrageous prices for rent and give you an updated kitchen and that's it. One of the bathrooms in the apartment still has the old towel rods and hasn't been updated. Its so not worth the money AT ALL!!!
The office staff are wonderful and very nice but please go somewhere else. I thought maybe it wasn't that bad but you do not get your money's worth at all. These apartments are very old and musty and no amount of upgrading can fix that. At the moment there are 51 vacant apartments over here so that means everyone is LEAVING!!!! People leave for a reason! I am LEAVING NEXT!! I can't wait for my lease to be up! I'm getting tf out of here like...
Read moreSo far we have only lived here about 5 months. Upon move in we had a lot of issues. I was extremely displeased with the lack of attentiveness with the office staff, and the fact that basically no maintenance requests were being filled. The amenities were either closed or reduced, and the laundry facility was straight removed. I was highly upset, and still am, as I had intended to rent a unit with washer and dryer included, but decided again it as there was a facility on-site. Much to my dismay after moving in, I discovered they had literally removed it. Soon after they finally got a good maintenance crew, and my requests were taken care of. Kevin, the maintenance tech, was phenomenal, and was always prompt and polite. However recently it appears Kevin has left the job, from what I understand, due to lack of other staff to help. Now they have a new crew, and they are doing their job, but I donât feel they took the genuine time and interest Kevin did. Next, the office staff still does not do well with answering calls. I have to call several times to get anyone to answer, and I donât dare leave a message as my messages never receive return calls. The living in the area is fine, apartments are older, but updated as much as they can be. Pools are kept very clean. Unfortunately, due to COVID amenities are still reduced to office hours and due to this, I have not been able to take advantage of the amenities I pay for that were supposed to be 24 hour access. In general not a bad place to live, but A LOT they need to work on. Also, they should try to get Kevin back.
Update: they have added paid parking for visitors. I cannot hold family birthday parties because they want visitors to pay to park. If there are no visitors spaces available, visitors are expected to leave. Theyâre not allowed to park elsewhere. Our parents are becoming older, and are not in the best health. One is not in good health and lives on a fixed income. We live on the top floor, and it is difficult for them to have to walk across the lot AND climb the stairs. Also, tenants with washers and dryers of their own were forced by lease to switch to the ones the complex provides as of last year. In addition to us paying for amenities, again which we have no access to. A heated pool thatâs closed all winter and never heated in the summer, which results in ice cold water and inability of use without making our children sick. A fitness center under renovation for almost a year. Not to mention WE PAY TO LIVE HERE and no one can do their own vehicle maintenance. I understand rules must be in place to keep the complex nice, but not everyone can afford to pay for every bit of maintenance on their vehicles. I understand major repairs being done in the lot and keeping vehicles that donât run may be unsightly, but youâre asking everyone who has a vehicle that may need a minor repair, but canât run at the moment, to pay for a tow, and then pay someone to repair it. Absolutely ridiculous and unjustified, and I can only hope more people start standing up for their...
