The Split Mitt — Local services in Flint Charter Township

I want to publicly thank the owner of Split Mitt for personally apologizing to my son who had the unfortunate experience in his business. My family appreciates him for acknowledging that these type things do happen all too often and EVERYONE should stand against it whether they are personally effected or not. Theses type of conversations are hard but are necessary an I appreciate the owners efforts to understand how this situation effected my son an our family. Many times people of color are dismissed when we report these occurrences happening to us, so thank you Split Mitt again for acknowledging our experience as real, that is a great start. Please continue to do the hard but very important work of making sure your business stands against racial profiling.

My 17 year old black son was racially profiled at this store. He an a friend we’re looking for sun blockers for track season and were kicked out of the store because a white woman employee was scared of their blackness. My son asked why were they being kicked out of the store? Her reply, “we just got robbed”. Sooo you see two black kids and you think you’re going to get robbed? If they were two white kids I’m sure that would not have been the assumption. I do not recommend this store. I will be sure I tell all of my colleagues at the State of Michigan…an all my husbands colleagues at General Motors Truck…as well as my neighbors in Flushing, Michigan to never shop here because they harass black children! Please get some diversity training in 2024 and learn how to live with people of all ethnic...
