When it's stable it's the best internet provider in the area, but when it's not I get stressed beyond words. I will lay a bit of ground work first. I work 12 hour days from a home office that requires internet. So when I had internet problems over the last 3 days with it going up and down, you would think they would be very fast to respond. They told me when I called customer service that all they can do is restart the modem remotely. They did so and it didn't do much for my issue, so they said they'd send out a technician. That sounds good right? Unfortunately they said it will take them FIVE days to send out a tech, so I realize now that I will have to find another place to work for the next two days and potentially Monday or just hope that I experience no outages till then. Is it just me or does 5 days seem crazy, especially after having 3 days consistently of connection issues? I am willing to re-do my review if my problems are addressed more timely. We'll see.
FOLLOW-UP
I was trying to review again but my internet keeps dropping. At first it was when there was any hint of rain. A technician was requested and could only come out 5 days later and said they found no problems. Next time it rained it went out again. I called back and the tech for the Forest City office seemed annoyed that I called when I said I'd already scheduled another tech to come out. That's going to be another week later. I am not sure what they'll find when they show up Monday, but now my internet is dropping when there's no rain and I WORK from a home office and need internet. The lady on the phone said it was an area outage which was separate from my rain issue. I am flabbergasted at the terrible service and I think maybe the monopoly in this area makes them not care. I asked the technician that came to look last and he said he was just a contracted worker that had no idea besides checking the line to the drop in my yard and replacing a few connectors. All I really want is stable internet so I can work from my home office from 9-5 daily. I feel like for the price I pay that isn't asking too much, so I lowered my 2 stars to only 1 star. I'll adjust it if they help but I have zero faith in this company. Do not use them. I wouldn't if I had any other choice for faster speed internet. They really are the best when stable for the area, but also the worst for customer...
Read moreI have had dealings with northland since I was born. it has consistently been the worst experience of my life as well as other friends and family. I have live elsewhere, at different points in my life, and every other cabel based organization has passed them by miles in all aspects.
Now at a new residence for the last 5 years, and befor we moved there we checked that it could recive cabel based internet services were available. They of course tell us yes and we sechulde at time for install. we move in, day befor our install call from the local NC office says no internet service is available, but we have digital TV with DVR. So we except so we have some form of entertainment. then the problems start. spotty service with consistent service interrupts, but the bill takes the real cake. They have to be the highest priced provider period and for this outrageous price you get very spotty service. not to mention, once a year, they go up. I called to inquire about the increase, since my services hadn't improved and internet still wasnt available. they told me the government allows them to go up a certain percentage each year so they do. so we decided to let them go.
Fast forward to current day. we check in time to time. just to see if they have upgraded our area. about 2 weeks ago I check online, it says there available, which it has lots of times befor. so I set up to get a call back asap. 4hrs later they call lady checks my service says its available, big shock, this is were they usually tell me no. So I set up a date for install. price was high but it was at least going to be 100mb. so there suppose todo my install tomorrow. they call today from a restricted number and leave a voicemail saying internet is not available. so in over 5 years they have upgraded nuthing in my area.
if you have and other options use it first.
lastly one star is to high but I cant...
Read morePoor customer service in terms of capabilities. Are the people nice? Mostly. They're adequate and typical CS workers, ultimately you can't expect too much from them due to how companies have decided and have been allowed to do their business practices, which are by and large poor, and becoming even more so.
Vyve, the purchaser of Northland, is just as pathetic as their predecessor. Internet has been around going on since 1983. It's 2021. Why there are day to day issues of the magnitude that occur as they do is beyond me, the fact that there is little to anything to be said or done about it by a company that expects regular, full payments at over-priced rates is ridiculous.
After running a 7-day check of internet speeds, the average speed across the timeframe was 37.8% of the speed I purchase. I did not track how much downtime there was, but I suppose I could and should do that next.
They are the only ISP (which means internet service provider for those who do not know) in my particular area. AT&T has said they are working on serving my location, however from my understand their service is equally as bad, but with how unreliable the internet connectivity and functionality is with Vyve, again, formerly Northland, I will happily be taking my chances when the option becomes available.
Obviously this is not an in-depth review, but I didnt feel that was necessary based off the sole fact that the product you are paying for is not what you receive, and there aren't any remedies seemingly in the works despite the modern age seemed sufficient enough to not warrant any further review.
Customer beware; use this product only if you have no other option, and complain to city council about there being no other option and that the issue needs to be remedied or the company needs to be held...
