I was recommended to look at the Ft. Collins Club by a few friends of mine that go on a regular basis and love this club. Being new to the workout/gym world and not having stepped into a gym for almost 10 years, I would have to say this club is great! It was very easy to get an appointment for a tour, the first employee that I met with was Dean and he was personable, understanding, and did not pressure me into signing up right away. He answered all my questions and was very informative of available services, classes, and amenities. Dean informed me that they were running a promotion where the enrollment fees were waived and I also would receive $400 in credit for classes or training services offered through the club. Knowing that I really had no idea what I was doing, or how to use the machines, this was a great incentive for me to sign up and get started. Once I signed up (literally that day I toured the club) Dean helped me to get signed up with a personal trainer to help get me started and have the confidence to get back into shape. I had Zach F. assigned to me as my personal trainer for three training sessions. Zach was fantastic and a very supportive and attentive trainer. Our first meeting we went over why I came to the club and what I wanted to see come out of the trainings we had set up. Zach created a program that was mindful of my personal body limitations (shoulder and back issues) and planned to show me three different trainings- one for upper body, one for lower body, and one for a full body work out session. I was very impressed by how Zach listened to me and how well he incorporated my personal life into what he showed me and recommended for me to begin with. He provided reminders of our training sessions the day before and was very flexible when I needed to reschedule one of my sessions. Zach helped to keep me motivated for my first month and really provided that support that I needed to get back on track for my health. I would highly recommend Zach if you are needing some guidance or training! He was able to keep me going and pushing through the sessions that he created for me and knew that they would challenge me but not be too much. Thank you Zach!
I look forward to making the Club my gym home and am excited to start the process to getting to a healthier me with a great facility and team...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been a member of the Fort Collins club for over a decade and have waited to let the dust settle with the transition to Genesis before commenting. I like the new machines and I have enjoyed a few of the new yoga and spin instructors.
What I don't like is that Genesis took a very personable and treat everyone like family environment and interjected a cold evil corporate stepmother into it. The warm customer service is gone. The new folks that work there have no idea what is actually going on and look at you like you're an idiot when you aren't familiar with their corporate ways.
Even though we were told that nothing would change with our membership, that was not true. Those of us with long-term relationships with the club received discounts in the gallery and also received a certain number of guest passes a month that correlated with the longevity of our continued membership at the club.
Genesis is obviously just about numbers and doesn't care about retention or customer service like the old Fort Collins Club.
I will say I was excited when they took over because I thought there would be a lot of changes and much needed enhancements to the facility. Initially, it looked like that was going to happen. They brought in new machines and added some new lights and threw out a bunch of stuff, but after that, NOTHING.
The men's locker room still has a community shower which is nasty and has always been the biggest complaint of male members. I know that it would be a large undertaking, but I bet it would boost membership.
The overall cleanliness of the facility was also good at the beginning but now has completely fallen off. The cleaning solution for the machines and weights is often empty, not to mention finding the towels and rags to clean the machines are rarely kept up so the health hazards are growing.
This is by far the longest review that I have posted but the Fort Collins Club has been a big part of my family's life for over a decade. My kids grew up going to Kids Club, my wife even worked there for over 5 years. Yes, the previous management owners cut a lot of corners but the one thing they did that was great was keep a family environment as a very...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI hate to be one writing a negative review on a place that initially really excited me. However, at the end of the day, the expectations that the Genesis team met when signing up were not met.
I wanted to do my āfree workoutā to feel out of the gym. After recommendations from friends and encouragements about their pricing, it came to my surprise that my āadvisorā of sorts sat me down to have a 30+ minute conversation (that felt like a lecture) about joining. I asked about a matched rate that my friends had bragged about. He seemed threatened that I would dare to bring up a lower rate and made me feel like I was out to scam the gym (as he told me was down many times before). Timid and pressured, I signed the contract.
I was most excited about the pool for lap swimming. No one told me it would be ridiculously challenging to reserve a lane at a reasonable time. You had to call 48 hours in advance but every time I asked the staff was never able to say the exact time sign ups opened. So it was usually either 6am or 8pm swim times available. Also, their online portal to sign up never worked so it was extremely inconvenient. Also, the classes. I showed up for my first yoga class, went to the room it was labeled on the schedule, and sat there. No one showed up and the class location was mislabeled. I checked with the front desk, and again, clueless. I never tried to go to a class again.
Lastly and the most frustratingly, I called to inquire about cancelling my membership while flying home for a family emergency. Someone told me I had to do it in person but would honor the date I called. I wasnāt able to make it back in person until weeks later and by that time, donāt even think about it.. they sat me down again and made me feel dumb for asking. I was shocked that they told me I had to pay not one but TWO more months based on the date I came in. That is almost $200 I did NOT have.
Frankly, I want a refund for those months to honor what I was told over the phone but am too intimated by the staff to even think about asking based on my prior experience.
If youāre looking to save money and have a convenient time, this is not the place...
