We visit family in Bonita Springs every spring, and we always make several trips to Estero Island each year. Fort Myers Beach is always fun with its party atmosphere, but Bowditch Point Beach, just a mile farther up, on the northern tip, is our favorite spot. It's walking distance from FMB but feels completely secluded and is never crowded (at that time of year, at least). Always lots of wildlife there, from starfish, sand dollars, and crabs, to manatees and dolphins. Last year a pod of dolphins swam right up to where we were wading in the water and stayed a good 15 minutes. Plenty of good shells there, especially after a strong rain. Be careful of the very strong current coming around the tip of the island when the tide is going out, though - don't go out farther than knee-deep at that time (it's very shallow, though, so you will still be able to go fairly far out from shore).
