I am an Epileptic who has my service dog with me everywhere I go. She is a medium sized Golden Doodle who is VERY trained (She even flys with me on a leash - no carrier - with a DOT approved registration). We live full time 2 block south of Junkanoo, and frequently stop there to dine/drink by boat. EVERY TIME we go there, the host/hostess will insist we have to sit “outside” the main structure and it’s wide open shutters, even though our dog has the appropriate service vest on and I explain that she’s a medical alert dog (not a pretend “comfort dog”). Usually we just get tired of arguing and take their offered seat outside. Last night was cold and windy, so most of the shutters were closed. After we insisted on sitting inside, the manager came over to the host stand, looked at our dog, and proclaimed “I’ve never seen a service dog lunge like that” (she was curious about another dog walking by just outside the opening, and was pointing her nose that way at the moment). I said “I’m sorry but you don’t know what you’re talking about, and that the ADA doesn’t care what your opinion is on the matter”. He was angry at me for calling him out on it, and reluctantly put us as close to the open door as possible so as to “not disturb other customers”. We frequent ALL the places on Fort Myers Beach, and Junkanoos is the ONLY place that repeatedly hassles us about our service dog. I don’t really care what your manager thinks, because the ADA says the decision is not yours to make. It’s on ME for anything our dog does, and you can’t “get in trouble from the health dept” for allowing us in. That’s BS (I was in the restaurant business with 9 locations for 25 years). Once I tell you she’s specifically a Medical Alert Dog, you can’t really stop me. Sorry. The next time this happens I will be calling our lawyer, so you’d better wise up. (I should note that 15 minutes after we sat down, another gentleman came in with his basset hound - clearly not a service dog - and sat at the bar. The waiter said “oh he comes in here every night with...

Please Bring Back The Quality! Junkanoo has been one of my family's favorite haunts for years. Looking out over the gulf, with both outdoor and indoor seating, the laid back ambiance and view just can't be beat. They used to have glorious, fresh seafood, wonderful service and some of the best grouper tacos on the island. My husband and I tried it twice this January and were deeply saddened to find the quality of both the service and the food much diminished from previous years. The grouper tacos were dripping with water. Even the hamburgers didn't come dressed as they were written on the menu. Nothing we had on either occasion (except the oysters!) seemed especially fresh or well prepared. In telling fashion, the dear place was nearly empty both times. With the outstanding view and incredibly busy restaurants everywhere else on the island, there's just no reason a place like Junkanooshould sit empty! Nevertheless, after the second try, we ceased going there. Just too many other great options nearby. We were told the business had changed hands in recent years, and I pray whoever owns it now will reinvest in the quality of the food and service. We love Junkanoo, and I'd love to make it a family favorite once again. Good food, prepared simply and well...shouldn't take too much, and I have no doubt it would prove well, well worth it to the business! *On one positive note - the oysters were still supremely delicious and...

"1/2 price pizza on Tuesday's!"--They say, however they refused to honor!!!! I called at 2pm, to verify as I have about 7 family members arriving in town- the girl tells me half price pizza's after 4, by when I called tonight to place the order, not only was the man on the phone extremely rude , but he informed me they are not doing half price pizzas because they were busy. So they just get to not honor their sign.. nice... not only that, but the man hangs up on me- so I called back and ask for a manager- who proceeds to tell me the discount is dine in only- which is what NONE of the others said the two other times when calling, this man was very rude also. I had explained that the other two people I spoke with did not say that, and he said no- they will not do half price pizza for the 7 pizzas I was going to order. If they had been pleasant, I would have placed the order anyways, but I need someone with proper service which was clearly not this place... So I took my full price order to Fort Myers beach Pizza which I'd completely recommend!! They were glad to have or large order, and were very pleasant- and the pizza was amazing! I'll be leaving...

Although there are a number of good things to talk about here, Junkanoo Beach was sort of a let down. First off, it is hot as heck. I do not think the restaurant has air conditioning. And that in itself is ok. Most people choose to sit outside. We sat inside because the sun was at that uncomfortable point where it was not setting but still low enough of an angle that it would be blinding to some people in our party. Although my food was pretty good (5 blackened shrimp for $20), most of the rest of the party was sort of a let done. My one kid asked for fish sticks and got a giant battered piece of fish. My other kid's meal came out ten minutes after the rest of ours as it appears they forgot to make it. We waited to eat until her food arrived, so most of our food was cold. It took a long time for the bill to come out. The look of the place was nice, and the staff was amicable. They have some cool looking waterfalls by the front door which is always a plus. So if I came back, I'd probably sit outside and have most of my party order different food.

I was hopeful from the menu and reviews but this was a bit of a disappointment. Beware the seating location behind the host stand towards the beach. The table is in a real bad location once seated because every server, patron and lookie loo stomps by. The heavy walkers about bounce you outta your seat as the wood floor flexes a lot. The special tequila sunrise drink was ok. Overall the food was ok but the fresh beans (chef's veggies surprise) were way raw, rice was real salty, shrimp was good and mahi was decent with lots of jerk seasoning piled on though. Scallop app was ok but they were leaning to rubbery. Conch fritters ok overall but conch was tougher than typical for other places. Waiter was attentive enough if not new to this line of work as I got glimpses of lunch line serving lady vibes. Wife doesn't want to come here again.
