This place seemed nice at first, James at the office the coolest dude really helpful. Me and my brother moved in first thing I noticed was there was a lot of problems with the apartment, some of the heaters didn’t turn on or they would be smoking when turned on, The base boards in the bathroom weren’t put in very well, closet doors with misalignment you can tell they are cheap when you use them it falls out of place very easily, the dishwasher they gave us is horrible always leaves really bad water spots or make them really dirty even when i would clean them very well before hand, the fridge we had sounded really loud sometimes it was sort of like and ice machine making ice yet the fridge does not have that feature the rubber lining to the doors fell apart so you would have to realign the rubber part to close the fridge, most of the lights around the house were defective the light I had in the kitchen was like this plastic cover on it and it fell off, the stove is cheap you can tell it wouldn’t get as hot as a normal stove i make tortillas from El Salvador usually with my other stove I had in my apartment it wouldn’t take so long but with the stove they gave us it took almost hours to make them, The over head fan witch clears out all the smoke when your cooking worked for a little while than stopped,The wall plug in the bathroom zapped and i got shocked first time trying to use it, the tub they installed you could tell it was cheap first time using it the drain was clogged I unclogged it using baking soda and vinegar, one of the doors to the bedrooms didn’t even lock had one but there was a gap between the door and the frame also with the front door very hard to lock it I had to reajuste the lock myself to make it lock properly and the front desk door when opening it sticks you would have to pull or push really hard on it, Other than the apartment issues some of the neighbors are pretty nice but some are very rude my downstairs neighbor would always complain that my dogs would bark but dogs tend to do that even called the police because of my dogs barking multiple times, one of my neighbors would just stand outside my door looking through the peek hole I had, some neighbors complained that my brothers truck was too loud when he would start it but there’s not really much you could do about that so I don’t get the point of complaining, and one day his truck alarm was going off I figure somebody must have threw something at it or I don’t know. Besides rude neighbors there’s the pool seemed nice at first but after I went in the pool I got this weird rash on my leg and it doesn’t even smell like the put colorean in the pool I’ve never even seen them. I had a 2 bedroom for me and my brother and his wife. When paying the first months rent we figured we would just turn it into the office like our last place nope you have to mail it or do it online if you do it online they charge extra if we would have mailed it we’d be late first month of being there. You would have to call the Avalon number or whatever it’s called and they are not help at all they failed to remember any information we gave them charged outrageous late fees when they gave us the run around of sending in a check to pay the rent. Wouldn’t even take parcial payments for rent. We got a threaten for eviction or to pay up only living here for 4 months. They told us in the beginning they would charge 3,000 something said they charge extra if you have dogs but I have them my dogs service tags and they said they wouldn’t charge us anymore for dogs but still did, And almost all the time the office or the phone line they gave us were barley any help. This is not worth your money they make it seem nice but it’s all lies with all the problems I had with not only the apartment but the people there to the customer service and the unclean pool , i could barley afford this apartment big cooperations like Avalon don’t care about low poverty citizens for a 2 bedroom apartment with only one bathroom a small kitchen cheap building materials...
Read moreI have lived here for almost a year now. I originally moved into a Studio but recently upgraded to a 2 bedroom. All studios include a washer and dryer in the unit and are very secluded/quiet from the rest of the complex. Not all 2 bedrooms have washer/dryer but those that do are worth the rent. The pool is always clean and the barbeques are first come first serve.
The staff is always very helpful and in an excellent mood. They say I am their favorite tenant, but I have a feeling they say that to everyone.
With the Bay Trail just down the road and Starbucks within walking distance, this is one of best places I have rented in 20+ years.
Update on June 17, 2014 Change from 5 stars to 2.
Since my initial review of these apartments they have changed management. In the year since I have patiently waited to see where the new management would head compared to the previous managers, and it has become clear that the place is headed downhill.
One main reason is the enforcement of policies within the lease. I have brought the attention of junk including bikes and other miscellaneous items blocking entry ways making it very difficult to get to mailboxes. Many tenants also store garbage and pile junk on their decks. Despite repeated calls, online submissions for requests to clean up, and even letters to the main office, nothing has been done. It has been nearly a year now and no progress has been made.
Two is the new garbage system in place. There is no longer a dumpster to unload garbage, but rather you are directed to place your garbage on your front porch between 6 and 7pm. Items are not always collected and will often sit for a couple of days. In addition, a dumpster is now in plain view in front of the building and not in the enclosed designated area.
Several weeks ago notices were posted on the doors that there have been several break ins to cars in the parking lot within the complex. In addition there was advice on how to keep your vehicle safe.
Despite the quality of care in the upkeep going downhill, rent continues to climb. So much as even $1k more per month at the renewing of a lease if any less than 12 months commited.
I will change my review to a positive if things improve, but currently I do not recommend living here to anyone until then.
It is sad as Foster City is a beautiful and very pleasant area to live. Hopefully this complex can turn things back around or I will be looking elsewhere when my...
Read moreI want to express my total outrage at the way I was treated by the community manager during my son’s birthday party. I was hosting family and friends at my home when he showed up, saying the kids needed to be reminded not to ride their bikes inside the community. I agreed with him, said “ok,” and asked the kids to stop. Some of these children have special needs, including autism. He left at that point.
Later, one of those children was simply sitting on a bike, not riding it. Even so, the manager came back in the middle of my party, intimidating me and embarrassing me in front of my guests. He handed me a “first notice” claiming I was making too much noise — in the middle of the day! — and also said the kids were still riding bikes, which was a lie. When I explained that the child on the bike was autistic, he coldly said he didn’t care and that he wasn’t going to argue with me. That lack of empathy and understanding is completely unacceptable.
On top of that, he accused me of “making noise after 10 p.m. on weekends.” When I asked for proof, he said he had it but could not confirm it was after 10 p.m. This is ridiculous. I have cameras at my home and told him I would gladly provide recordings to compare, but he refused to show me anything. Yes, I sometimes host friends at my home, like any other resident, but I never make the kind of excessive noise he claimed.
What shocks me the most is that this manager came twice, in the middle of my son’s party, just to harass and embarrass me — and even dismissed and disrespected an autistic child who was my guest. That kind of behavior is outrageous and unprofessional.
When I moved here, they promised a clubhouse and gym. One month later, they closed everything “for remodeling” and started building new apartments where the clubhouse should have been. So not only do they fail to deliver what they promise, but they also mistreat residents with zero respect.
After this experience, I will make it clear: I cannot recommend this community to anyone, and I am already planning to move out. A place that fails to deliver on promises, intimidates residents, and shows no respect — not even for children with special needs — does not deserve to be called...
